Cant Fly

Featured Replies

Yeah, it seems to me that it's some other sort of issue. It's very rare for a breeder to clip a budgie's wings before it's fledged. Maybe it's time for a second opinion?

I have the same problem...

I've had a female budgie for about a year, and she has never been able to fly. The Vet can't find anything wrong with her, and her wings aren't clipped...it's very strange :budgiedance: I think it might be because she was kept in a TINY (diameter was about 10 inches) round cage with a single perch and no toys until I rescued her. She never had the chance to develop her muscles.

Poor little birdie! Bless you for rescuing her. Does she ever try to fly, or flap her wings on a perch for exercise?

She flaps her wings a lot....she seems really frusturated, and when I had Feliz (her mate) with unclipped wings, she got really depressed...he would fly and call to her, and she would flapflapflap and not get anywhere. She'd be running and jumping across the basement floor trying to take off. I clipped feliz's wings, and now they run around together. I'm hoping that as she continues to flap her wings and launch herself from shelfs (I swear she has a death wish!) she'll develop her muscles.

I think you should help encourage her to fly by gently tossing her onto a soft surface, and as she gets better, slowly incrase the distance you toss her to that soft surface. It once made a drastic improvement in one of my budgies happiness!

I'm going to give that a try with Budgy2 Mfids, thanks for the suggestion.I think you said to use the bed didn't you?
