Posted September 22, 200519 yr I have a question.... It's not so much what is normal poo, but how clean is the vent? I have one bird, Sugar, that has always got a dirty vent/feathers. She is white, so its very noticable. She eats a lot of apple which I know can cause diaherra, but she seems to always have dirty feathers around the vent. Her poops look totally normal, she is acting normal. Not acting tired or lathargic etc. Could this be that she just has more feathers around the vent that the poo gets stuck on?
September 22, 200519 yr Hi Buuzbee, I can't answer why sugar is geting dirty vent feathers but as to her acting. Budgie don't act sick or show sickness until they are very sick. I would surgest giving the apple a miss for a few days and see if that clears up the problem.
September 22, 200519 yr We have the same problem with Star, I think it's more noticable on the Albinos as the stains stand out on white. We give him plenty of baths, sometimes a quick wipe, which he hates and pulls this face after we release him I think it also gets worse as they get older as more stains build up.
September 22, 200519 yr casper is mostly white too - sometimes his vent feathers gets a little yellow tinge but its not really notciable and only happens when he has been eating lots of carrot!
September 22, 200519 yr Alot of my Albino's & Lutino's have this problem if you can call it a problem. I only notice my ino's as having this.
September 22, 200519 yr it's weird, out of my 3 white ones, she is the only dirty one! she has always been like this! i didnt give them any apples today (spice did not like this) and i will see what happens. i will try and catch her tonight when it gets dark (she cant see me comings!!) and put in in the quaratine cage for a week, and see if no apples fix the problem. plus wash her up a bit! as for everything i read, in a sick bird, a dirty vent goes along with a lathargic, fluffed up bird. she is never like this. she spends all day cleaning Lilo and flying around like a mad bird! maybe she is just lazy when it comes to cleaning herself! i will keep her in the house for a week and see what happens thanks all
September 22, 200519 yr I don't think you have a problem, but try the apple project. We find that if Star drinks lots of water (at bath time!) or has lots of greens then the colouring of his vent feathers get mucky.
September 22, 200519 yr Geoge is yellow, not a lutino but a recessive pied yellow, and doesn't have this problem.
