Posted September 12, 200519 yr Can anyone recomend a good cage for 2 budgies? I did want one with 4 feeders (2 each) to avoid any fights :feedbirds: and ideally ones with a flap that comes down over the holes (when you take the feeders out) as my two would be out in a heartbeat! I'm not so worried about a stand, but.... Or if anyone knows of a good UK website? I've had a little look on ebay but nothing takes my fancy. I went to the petshop at lunchtime to have a look and there were a couple that were okay but they had bars on the floor too rather than a flat floor which put me off a bit... :sport: Grateful for any help/advice. Thanks
September 12, 200519 yr A Rekord4 is a good size cage.I've actually got one for sale but the cost of postage would be horrendous I think.
September 12, 200519 yr you beat me to it Julie :hap:: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> oh you are funny. Yes, that is a good size - will give them plenty of space for wing flapping. I was hoping for one with 4 feeders though.....or am I too fussy
September 12, 200519 yr I personally prefer the ones with the bars above the poop tray. they aren't walking in the poo, and its harder for them to get to the papers on the bottom to shred! but cleaning of the cage takes a bit longer with the added bars.
September 12, 200519 yr to be honest i think the grills are not realyl necessary, if there are bars the poo would just stick to the bars anyway and it takes a lot more to get the germs out of all the corners of a grill than off the base of the cage. besides if you have a big enough cage the budgies hardly ever go down to the floor anyway. i have the biggest budgie cage from pets at home, it is good except you have to sellotape the feeders down because escape is very likely. it is a lovely sized cage though, it is a large rectangle with one side curved - plenty of room for a rope perch, manzantia perch and about 4/5 toys
September 13, 200519 yr I agree about the grills my big cage has them and cant take them out as there is enough space for escapes, I cover the grills over with kitchen roll stops them getting dirty too.
September 13, 200519 yr I think I've seen the cage you mean Pixie! It's a pretty looking cage, blue, with spirals on?! Yes, I was looking at it but I agree with the feeders - I think my two would be out Do you think the cages are designed by people with birds? I don't think they can be - maybe we should design the perfect bird cage...easy to clean, good feeders with no escape option...nice big doors that when you open them they double up as a landing perch....a built in play gym on top of the cage...erm....what else?
September 13, 200519 yr Oh my, you'd make a fortune! Would you still speak to us commoners when your rich?
September 13, 200519 yr Oh my, you'd make a fortune! Would you still speak to us commoners when your rich? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh I might do And another thing we could add would be a stand with a built cupboard/shelves so we can store all the birds bits. I know Hagen (or something like that) do one but they are the cages with half perspex sides and half bars...don't like those either! I'm a fussy old bird eh!

Even with flap the budgies can make it out. They are really that smart as my budgie have proved it to me. The best way is seal the flap and get a feeder with screw.

I just don't think they can be designed by a bird owner-they can be just so impractical can't they? And in a larger cage you have to be a contortionist to reach the very back corners etc. Julie
September 13, 200519 yr i have the white one, but it also comes in blue the spiral shape on the curved side looks a bit like a backwards p. the feeders are easy to sellotape down and the plastic bottom attatches with twobits of wire clips and you just pop it off. so then you dont have to be a contortionist to get into the corners :hap: it also has a slide out tray for the sandpaper/newspaper. i like the cage it is the best one i have seen around... i think i payed about ?50 for it.
September 14, 200519 yr I agree Pixie...it does seem to be the best one I've seen and I quite like the blue too. I've seen it in Pets at Home for ?49.99. Think that will be 'the one' :hap:
September 14, 200519 yr I had the smaller version in blue when Bobby was on his own before I bought the big cage, Ive kept it as a quaratine cage - I like them.
September 14, 200519 yr What do you think about this one with the open top? http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/SCh...eSmallImage.jpg H60 x W59 x D36cm It's ?55. Just found it on the web
September 15, 200519 yr I like that a lot, Im buying an open top one for Charlie this weekend, obvisuly bigger, but for budgies thats great how much is it?
September 15, 200519 yr It was only ?55 online and I think you got 10% off, but I should imagine it's a ?5 for delivery!? I did see an open top one in Pets At Home but it was the one with the grills on the bottom which I wasn't too sure about. I'm torn between this one and the blue sprial cage. I'm going to my local pet shop at the weekend to see what they have....they never have any stands for the cages they have so quite often they give you a discount.
September 15, 200519 yr The one Im getting has a grill but I can live with that. I would getb the open top one especially with Patch and Kylie being tame they will love sitting up top!
September 15, 200519 yr They will feel like little princesses at the top of the castle eh...shame cages dont come in pink for girls
September 15, 200519 yr Awww a pink cage would be awesome. You should get the open top cage - order it now hehe!

You should get the open top cage - order it now hehe! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Teeheheh....what you like A big decision like this can't be rushed, teehehee...I do like the open top I must admit...mmmm????? Is Charlie getting a cage of his own then? Will Barnslee be joining?
September 15, 200519 yr Yes It will be big enough for both of them to share. Obviously it wont happen overnight but in time. Aw go one be a devil get the cage - it looks big enough and it DOES have 4 feeders!
September 15, 200519 yr i like them both ti really depends what you use the cage top for, i have a seprate playgym hat sits on the top of the cage and casper takes his wheatgrass baths on top of the cage and it wouldnt really work with an open top. i like it though, it is ideal for them to hang out on i would definitely get a cage with a play gym on top for a cockatiel or a conure and i think its great if you will have that for your budgies, especially if there isnt many other places for them to play. it keeps the mess inside the cage too! always a good thing!
September 16, 200519 yr I've seen this one I like now.. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/SCh...ain_/Arte50.jpg and I've also seen a really nice play gym that will fit on top. Think this is the one
