after my tropic lost his mate i partnered him up with an albino femlae who seems vevrey inteligent. there both about a year tropic a bit older. they are in a indoor avery and they have 2 outher budgies male and female,there both around 4 months. there are two nest boxes. my albino seems intrested in the boxes and spends long time in them tropics cere is darker blue then usual and my hens is a dark brown.

so do you think she might lay or will she wait another year or so.?

No you MUST wait at least until they are a year old, please dont even think about breeding the 4 month olds - they are still babies, the other 2 should be fine though!

I agree with boomberry make sure your 4 month old hen does not try breeding before 1 year old..

 

Your albino sounds like she may start to breed soon.

I'm waiting till George and Angel reach 1 year old. They are only about 5 months now.

If you want the albino and the male to breed NOW then I would take them out into a breeding cage alone to raise the little family.

I find it easier to breed a pair in a single breeding cage. I have 4 pairs each in there own breeding cage.

I have three pairs but only one is old enough. I also only have one breeding cage.

hi, will budgies breed in a normal cage with a nesting box on the outside ? i'm not doing it but a friend is but i'm not sure if it'll work, what do you think ?

That's the setup I used. It worked fine for me.

okay great. her budgies are only 7-8 months but she's adamant she wants to breed them (i've tried talking her out of it but she won't listen!) they have definitely bonded but she says they aren't really paying any attention to the box, what advice (besides take the box out, she won't listen !) shall i give her ? do you think they'll breed ? thanks

With birds of that age I wouldn't give any advice, only to wait another 12 months.

Tell her they are too young. Tell her to think of them as 14 year old humans, would she want them to breed?
