Moultone

Yesterday i took a trip to the local pets at home and purchased some moultone for Gooby. You add a few drops to his normal water and its meant to help birds through their moult. I also bought some cage bird tonic to give him occasionally after his moult.

Anyones advice about these two products would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks Budgex

I used Johstones Moultone Budge - its not bad but didn't really help with the feather loss. Cede egg mix is meant to be extra good for them when they are molting although I feed everyday - its their nearly favourite food - try it if you havent already.

i saw that too but it said canary egg mix or something.

what exactly is it called Boomery? :D

Sometimes I use the Canary mix if they dont have the budgie one - well its says Parakeet mix but it has a picture of a blue budgie on the box its exactly the same box as the canary one and they sell it for about ?3 at Pets At Home.

okay thanks Boomberry! ill get some

Gobby will love it all my birdies adore the stuff.

One word of warning its very messy hehe crumbs everywhere and mine prefer it dired how it is in the bos rather than soaked.

oooops hehehe sorry Budge - sorry Gooby I wasnt being rude just wasnt paying attention to what I typed hehe!

is moultone meant to be pea geen in colour when diltuted with the water?

I think moultone might be nice, but I've heard that many budgies won't drink out of their dish when a vitamin/supplement etc is in it, because it tastes funny. I also think the water grows bacteria faster when you put stuff in it, and therefore needs to be changed more often? Not positive about that though. You can try it, but I've steered clear of anything you add to their water for Peeks & Sky.

By the way Budge- have you decided whether or not you'll get Gooby a friend yet? :D

Yeah green or blue I cant remember havent used it in a bit I know its changes the water colour you only put in a small drop or two though.

I wouldn't suggest ever adding anything to the water for the same reason that Jess mentioned. If he's getting a good varied diet you shouldn't have to do anything extra during his molt.

The only time I'd add anything to the water is if a vet were to give you some kind of medication that HAD to be put in the water. I've heard Baytril can go in water, but I don't know ANY animals who would drink their water after it was put in it! Trying to feed it in a syringe was a NIGHTMARE! It took two people to restrain and pry the jaws open of 3 very, very tame and calm bunnies (well, usually... until we broke out the bayril!) to medicate them. We ended up just shoving the syringe into any cracks in their teeth that we could find, squirting it in, and praying to god that they didn't spit it ALL up :)

We once were assigned the task of giving our Eclectus some kind of medicine (I forgot what it was called) that was a powder and only allowed in the water. WELL, we had to get creative on that one!

Yes! Getting him a friend next Easter. Its recommended if you want your lone budgie to stay tame to wait 1 year so that you are fully bonded before getting a second. I read it somewhere on the net and it makes sense. In any case my breeder has finished breeding until boxing day so its out the question until next year anyway.
