which cage?

Featured Replies

The first one for sure Anne - I think its a better looking cage all round and seems to have way more room - if I was you I would get that one.

Hope that helps!

I'd choose the second one. I think there would be more space in it purely because the shape isn't weird, if that makes sense. Also, perches and toys would be much easier to arrange since the design is very "straight forward" so to speak. In the first cage, everything would have to come out at angles and the cage would almost be like a round one as far as the space inside is concerned.

Just my opinion. :) Both look nice. I don't know *why* they make the roof like that though! I'd think it would be impossible to hang toys or swings from the top that way, they should just leave it open like a normal cage. I know Drs. Foster and Smith sell a cage similar to those but the roof has a fixture where you can attach full-spectrum lighting. That might be why the roofs of thsoe are like that actually...

Anyway, happy cage-shopping! :D

Still confused! We dont have a Fosters and Smith suppliers in UK :) But any uk links to good aviary suppliers will be gratefully received :D

I'll see what I can find. :) I don't think those cages are bad though, I just get peeved that so many cages are designed to be friendly to the human eye instead of in the very best interest of the birds. But at least it's nothing dangerous or anything and they are REALLY spacious so that's wonderful.

the man i got my cage from on ebay had cages that were the same as the second one for ?130, he might have some left, should i dig out the number for you?

Yes please Andy!!!

Im tending to lean more towards the longer, flatter cage. Its more 'right' for budgies somehow! I agree Etteri, pretty isnt always practical!

I would certainly choose the second one-it's much more budgie friendly as there seems to be more longways space which is what they use most. It's very super duper!. The only thing that annoys me about my new one is that the top is domed. If they had made it flat I could still sit the bath on top like I used to and it would have given that little bit more space up at the top where they like to be.

sorry it seems it is the olny thing that has ever been thrown away from this house, i was looking for ages (Laughing out loud), and there also dosent seem to be anything on ebay at the moment as big as that :D, but if yoe are going with one of those to i would choose the 1st one because it says that each panel is 46cm so with a panel then 2 either side at 45degree angles that works out at 92cm at widest point (i think :) ) and thats all round so if they will be flying round the cage i think it will be better because with the other one being 76cm i think they would have to fly a bit, perch turn around, fly a bit more, perch turn around (Laughing out loud), it also seems a lot taller so you can probarbly fit more toys into it wich i'm sure they'll love and its also really attractive for your living room i know thats not the main thing but its a good bonus, but they are both really great cages! personally if i dint need a cage in an emergency i would do somthing like check ebay twice a day and you would be sure to find a bargain quickly, anyway good luck!

Good points Andy, definitely stuff to think about.

Though, two things came to mind when reading your reply. Budgies seem to enjoy back and forth flying rather than around and around. I know my two who are now flighted have the whole room but are more likely to go from point A to point B in a straight line and then turn around and go back.

Also, the height won't necessarily allow for more toys because you can't hang them from the top and they'll have to be spread out so poo doesn't get dropped on them from perches. The angles would make the perches stick out really oddly...

I'm such a critic but I think cage number two is more "natural" for the budgies. Plus, it'd fit against a wall much better than the first one. So it's more practical, just less pretty?

Now, I have GOT to stop procrastinating and clean my puny little cages. And cover my bird's eyes so they don't see the cool cages that chirpy's birds are getting. :)

i like the second one :D but only because i am lazy and wouldnt want to be cleaning poop of all the perches in the hexagon one. :)

Thanks guys! My mind is made up, cage number 2 will be ordered tomorrow! It was my innitial favourite, but you know how it is when you think to long about something :) Also, with the number 2 cage, its built and designed with budgies in mind, and on a lovely summery day it will be easier to wheel outside.

Number to it is!!!!
