Worried about Merlin....

Featured Replies

Posted

Merls is always put up in the front porch during the days. The past week or so it's still been chilly in the morning when we go, and we have to put him out there so the cat can't get him. Then when we come home he's indoors and into the warmth.

Is it possible that he's just struggling with the constant change in temperatures??

He's only a *tiny* bit fluffed up.... but the past three days or so, he's been going to the bottom of his cage under his water pot and doesn't move until my hand is near his cage :)

He's still chattering away but not as much. His poop is quite watery also :)

I will keep a close eye on him this evening, and if he is no better in the morning, I will try and push Mum to take him to the vets tomorrow night after we take my dog. He has to go to a different vet to her.

Please let my little man be okay we've only just really started to bond (as the piccies i should have up by the weekend will show), I don't want to lose another one. I love him so much!!!

All prayers and suggestions welcome *sniffle*

i hope your little merlin will be alright. Keep him warm.

Mum said that he's probably just having "an off few days" and that he'll be okay... I don't know how to convince her to take him :)

partially cover the cage and keep him warm for a while. Warmth does wonders for budgies.

He's just gone back to the bottom of his cage and is looking a lil worse. The vet is closing now dammit, but we're getting first in tomorrow. I hope he lasts....

Wouldn't let me edit, so I will just add that he is now in my bedroom, with the heater on getting him as warm as we can, with seed and water on the floor of his cage, and his cage all clean. The vet doesn't like the sound of him being on the floor.

aww, good luck!

He managed to flap over to his sleeping swing. The only way he can reach it is to climb up to his high perch and flap over. Don't mind these rambly posts, I'm just so scared for my little boy.

I'm glad to hear he's going to the vets. I'm keeping everything crossed for you.

Julie

Can't go until 8.30am tomorrow. It's now 8.45pm.

He's tucked up warm and sleeping for now. He doesn't seem as fluffed up and he's still breathing normally.

Do you think it would be easier to transport him to the vets in his normal cage, wtih all bar one perch removed, or move him into a box? I've used a box before, and he has been reasonably stress free, but I'd rather not handle him much in case he stresses on the trip over.Luckily they are close by.

put him in a small box. small enough that he cannot flap about and harm himself.

Ive got plastic carry boxes for vets visits - and it has a perch in too I think they are for all small animals mine are Disney ones with Mickey and Minnie Mouse on - Candy has the pink one because he the puffy one.

I got them at the pet store for only about ?4/5 each.

Oh okay. Our petshops are dodgy. I'll go down to the specialty bird store in a few weeks and find a proper one but for now, I'll just drag his carboard box out of hiding then!

a shoe box will do. punch some holes in it and line it with newspaper.

Yeups. I already have one all set up for him. I just wasn't sure which was better.

i hope all goes okay. Perhaps he just needs a course of antibiotis or something.

Keep him warm all night and cover the cage. He might be a bit more perky in the morning.

Yeah, I'm about to curl up for a sleep soon. It will be too hot in my room tonight for both of us, so I get the couch :(Laughing out loud):

Hope all goes well at the vet's.

Sudden changes in temperature can make a budgie ill so once this ordeal is over remember to keep him inside. Budgies are better at handling gradual changes in temperature.

I'll be thinking of him! Let us know what the vet says.

Well he seems not as fluffed this morning.... and looked at me fairly brightly. Hopefully the vet visit goes well and he's not too crook.....

Well theres no outwards signs of anything being wrong, no discharge, his chest is clear.

So... she wants to run tests on him, for cidicosis(can't spell that damn word!) diabetes  possible liver and kidney damage  So our little man is sleeping over at the vets till tomorrow night.

Fingers crossed its nothing too nasty!

Oh Dear! Poor little Herman, I hope he has not got anything seriously wrong and that he gets well very soon

Cindy

His name is Merlin :(Laughing out loud):
