May 16, 200520 yr Oh wow Andy! Aren't Mum's great!!! You must have been a really good boy! Julie :yellowhead:
May 16, 200520 yr i'm always a really good boy!, i think my mum must just be a happy mood at : the moment, its only a couple of weeks since she got me a new puppy :(Laughing out loud):
May 16, 200520 yr nope, i think she is trying to get me to stay here, cause i would be in charge of the aviary and she says she would be too frightened to go in it (Laughing out loud), so she wouldnt want me gone and be stuck with the aviary
May 16, 200520 yr Wow you are lucky Andy - that aviary would take up most of my back garden...... but I would love one just the same. You must really be in her good books and she must love you loads
May 16, 200520 yr Wow a puppy and an aviary, your mum must be wanting something in return, or she has done something bad and is trying to soften you up before you find out.
May 16, 200520 yr uh... dont think so.. hope not (Laughing out loud) but i dont think anything she can tell me would seem that bad with all these new pets
May 17, 200520 yr Wow lucky Andy good for you I dont really know much about aviarys but how do you keep them warm at night in this country?
May 17, 200520 yr Oh right wouldnt it still be cold when its down to below freezing in winter or can you buy heaters for them?
May 17, 200520 yr im thinking about getting one custom built insted the delivery on that one would be ?75 , i would run electricty out to it for heaters lights and maybe music and also have it well insulated, i know i need to do loads of research and planning but it would be great to have it up this summer
May 17, 200520 yr Be great Andy if you can do it wish I could but I dont live in an area where I feel the outside birds would be safe.
May 17, 200520 yr thanks adam , may i ask how big your small aviary is and how many budgies it holds?
May 19, 200520 yr Hiya Andy, I too have just started with the aviary and budgie keeping hobby, as my son wanted an aviary, I bought a shed 7' x7' then built a flight the same size for them too, I ahve just finished it this weekend and we released the first 03 budgies into it, it's so fantastic watching them, BUT BEWARE OF THE NEIGHBOURHOOD CATS! I didn't realise ther were so many cats in our neighbourhood til we got an aviary, now it'slike they come to get ther entertainment by chasing the birds bless em. Hope everyhting goes to plan, and hopefully we can share advise and help in the future. GOOD LUCK!! Dawn :ygbudgie:
May 19, 200520 yr i have a dog, she's only a little king charles spaniel, (who incidently is terrified of cats) they come to the gate and tease her thru it and she runs back inside, A MAJOR WUSS I KNOW! NEVER MIND THOUGH........ I have a great 03 year old who loves to try stroke the cats, but they dont like him so they run haha

May 19, 200520 yr Hello Andy, We built our own avairy about 3 months ago and its the best thing ever!!!! We had the shed area built for us and then we built our own flight and attactched it to the shed, we filled it full of real branches from trees as we found these were better for the birds and they are better for the birds than bamboo or shop brought perches, currently we have 12 budgies and 2 Cockatiels in our avairy and they all seem to be doing fine, we put all their food indoors, 1; to stop it getting wet in the rain and 2; to incourage the birdies to go in the shed as they were a bit scared at first but now they're in and out of it all the time, especially now we've put nest boxes in it! As for drink we managed to get hold of a huge china dish thingy that has chains on it so it hangs and that is hanging from one of the branches and they use this to drink from and bathe in, they've also got drink indoors too. We put some corugated plastic sheets that we go hold of, on top of the flight so that they wouldn't get wet when it rains, this seems to work well, we've also got two plants in the flight that they climb all over and a small cat litter tray full of grass on the floor that they like, we've also filled the flight with loads of toys and swings for them to play on, we also give them plenty of vegtables that we hang on special food spikes for them, the leaves from cauliflower are their faves! At night they all huddle up toghether and sleep outside! I hope all this is any good to you! Hope it all goes well, GOOD LUCK Nicola
