Bird Bathing

I've tried putting them in a bowl with shallow lukewarm water, in a sink with luke warm water running lightly and spraying them with a spraybottle on mist. They don't flap or anything, they try running away from everything but the the spraybottle. Should I just keep spraying them or just leave them alone? I want them to be clean and shiny, but I don't know what else to do. They aren't really tame yet so I don't want to put them in the shower.

Rachel ;)

Not all budgies like bathing. Try giving them their bath with some celery leaves (or other favourite leafy thing) in it. That's how i got all my birds to try bathing. ;)

yeah that works a treat I tryed it the other day. Now my bird have never had a bath before I've tryed with all different sized of dishes and whatnot but they have never gone for it. (but then i didn't care since they loved showers)

But put some lettuce in the water and they loved it.

YAY! Now i know it's not just my birds! :(Laughing out loud):

(Laughing out loud) nope, I even had two bowls for then and they fought over just one of them (Laughing out loud), silly things.

:(Laughing out loud): My budgies aren't that particular. If using 2 bowls means they can all bathe at one time then they're more than happy to share! ;)

(Laughing out loud) I wish nopw if Freckle is using something it must be the best thing in the world and both ringo and Marine want it, Pie digs into the food while no one is looking ;)

Budgies are like dogs...some like the water some hate it. The birds in the aviary hate it. George uses his water dish as a bath some times.

yeah they are different Freckle and Marine love the bath but Pie and Ringo love the shower more

Pie seems to be the clever one! :o

(Laughing out loud) Nah he is just the fat head, (Laughing out loud). Freckle is the smart one she yells and they all jump (Laughing out loud)

I think I'll try a bowl with some spinach in it since I currently don't have any lettuce, thanks :o .

Rachel :D

i got a huge lettuce leaf and filled it with a shallow layer of water to see if they would roll in it...it didnt work.

i tried dishes and bird baths for a long time, and a misting bottle. they are not keen on either.

last week i tried putting a small plate of water on the top of their cage but they didnt go in it. i put some brocolli (their fave) right in the centre so that they have to stand in the water to eat it. both of them will dip their feet in the water now, peanut likes his baths but casper still wont get his feathers wet.

i sometimes use the mist spray but i spray it upwards instead of directly at them and they dont seem to mind it. they love licking all the water droplets off of everything. it keeps them amused for hours on end! :o

both of mine love bath time, and scooby loves wrestling with my hair when its wet.

Only Georgy bathes and he likes to bathe in his spinach too when Ive washed it, Patty hates being mist sprayed, Candy likes it and Bobby has yet to undergo this hehe!

My budgie used to like taking a shower under the kitchen tap on my finger. Never tried a bath for it though, will make sure I do for the new one when I get it

Cheers,

Ellie
