I want to try celery but the stuff in our supermarkets hardly have any leaves on just the stalks wonder if anyone knows where else I could get the leafy bits.

Oh Bobby yet again ate cress from my hand he was in his cage this time so twice in a row!!

Are you looking at whole bunches or half? At the supermarket i go to the half bunches don't have many leaves but the whole ones have all their delicious budgie food intact. :) Seems stupid to get rid of the leaves.

And like Julie didn't suggest....there are usually tender new leaves growing up the middle. :D

Okey dokey celery leaf hunting I go on my way home - out of a matter of interest Julie which supermarket do you get yours from.

Oh and will they eat teh stalks because I hate celery!

Well if I'm feeling rich it's Sainsburys,if I'm not it's Tesco!The Co-op has them too.

Right me not rich enough for Sainsburys we have no Co-op and Tesco is miles away so a trip to Asda for celery tonight - could you imagine after all this and they dont like the stuff hehe.

My outside birds eat the stalks but not Blinkie, he's just too particular. I guess it depends on your birds, but if you slice it long ways into strips they should eat it. :D

Yeah I will give it a go tonight - they are mad on cress at the moment. Oh and Georgy makes me laugh I wash his spinach before giving to him and he bathes in the leaves when Ive clipped them in hehe!

That's what Blinkie does when i give him wet celery or cauliflower leaves.

He is the only 1 of the 4 who will get in his bath and he is the most timid of the four although he will sit on your finger but only from certain perches or pictures he is sat on - weird eh?

I'm sure it makes sense in his budgie mind. :D:blush:

More than likely he has been a tough little birdy and although he will never be fully tame Im proud of him for coming this far and especially the keel bone thing it was so prominent and now you cant see it even when he stands tall!

i use to work in a fruit and veg shop.... and sometimes had people asking if there was any fresh scraps and things they could have for birds and all sorts of animals.... i am sure if u go to the local veg store they will let u go out and get some stuff.... i mean it isnt like it is garbage just not people consumable... it is just off cuts and pruducts to small and not eye appealing... and it cost nothing !!!

Yeah, i saw someone at Woolworths get a box of salad leaves and stuff free for their rabbits. :D That's a good idea if you don't like the vegetable!

Oooh I might try the local one when I pop out later on.

My Dad grows a load of his own veg too might go round and steal some of his crops hehe.

just make sure u wash wash wash...and even better try and get organic. just to cut out the possabillity of pesticides in the food. !

Oh I wash everything thoroughly and my dad doesnt use any pesticides on his outside crops!

Sometimes I buy regular carrots with the tops still on. A lot of people will take the tops off and just put them back - I stuff the extra tops in the bag with my carrots. -_- Otherwise they will just get thrown away, and my birds love the tops.

Oh yes, your post reminds me Rainbow,I sometimes chop the top off and grow it in a saucer of water till the foliage forms and them let them have it like that.

Hey, maybe Blinkie would eat carrot tops..... *plotting to sneak new food into his diet* Another vegie my birds like is corn on the cob. :D They go nuts for it! :)

Raw....that's okay isn't it???
