Posted September 11, 201014 yr Well it's got to have been one of the worst days I've ever had......... Hubby and I went for a ride with a group of friends. I was happily tonkering along at the back only to come around a corner to see a bike laying trashed at the side of the road. In horror I realized it was my husbands bike. It was absolutley smashed facing the way we had come and on the other side of the road with Grant nowhere to be seen. The guys we were riding with said I screamed from the moment I realized what had happened to when I found him injured but okay down the imbankment. He is one lucky boy, after hitting a tree it looks like his bike became airborne, somersaulting and spitting him off over the top. He must have hit a few things on the way to his final stopping position as he now has a broken leg (fibula only) and a shattered shoulder blade and a crack into the shoulder joint. No internal injuries, no plaster and no surgery at this stage. I can't tell you how it felt to not know if you are going to find your soulmate dead on the side of the road. I am still very shaken, although while looking after hubby I'm being brave and strong - inside I'm churned up and teary........ Needed to share somehow.

September 11, 201014 yr Author Thanks Catherine, Kaz and GB. I had a shower and a big cry whilst there was noise to cover it but still feeling sickened but very thankful. He's home now after being at the emergency ward for 7 hours for x-rays and CT scans. He's resting comfortably enough. Leg is okay, only the small bone in the leg (fibula) but shoulder is pretty shattered. Still, he's alive with little long term worry. Bike is a write off though.

September 12, 201014 yr How horriable for you Nubbly. I am so glad he is alright , I hope he makes a complete recovery soon but that shoulder blade sounds bad. I felt sick reading this it is every ones worse nightmare. A few years a ago I got a phone call from my sons friend telling that he was dead, that someone hit him over the head with a tyre rod and he was on the side of the road covered in blood, dead, not moving. Jade really believed it was dead, he was crying is eyes out. I fell to the floor in horror and shock. I rang the police and ambo's and emergencie ward and everyone trying to find out. NO one new anything. This assalt only happened a few blockes from my house. I was a mess. Anyway the police advently turned up and he wasn't dead but very seriously hurt, I raised to the hospital he was hit several times the doctor couldn't believe he was still alive with the amount of stitches they did. It was a horriable experience thinking my son was dead and an hour earlier he was happy young 20 year old. Nubbly just have those little cries it makes you feel better.
September 12, 201014 yr Oh Nubbly, I can't imagine how terrifying that must have been to find your husband lying there injured. I hope you are okay too. :sadsorry:
September 12, 201014 yr Oh, Nubbly! What a terrible thing to go through- I'm so glad he will be okay. You will be okay, too. :sadsorry: I hope his broken bones mend quickly, and especially that his shoulder will heal with no complications. I hope he will be a good patient for you. Whatever you do, don't give him a little bell to ring! (Just kidding, sometimes those bells come in very handy.) And Splat, what nightmare you went through! Even though it's been a few years, you have my sympathy, as a mother. I take it he recovered fine?
September 12, 201014 yr Sorry to hear nubbly, best of luck for a speedy recovery and a long life together!
September 12, 201014 yr Author Thanks for all the wishes guys! It makes a big difference. Finnie the bell thing - Grant did suggest it but I also suggested that he might invest in a new helmet first coz I'm bound to smack him And Splat - what a horror! I can't believe how quickly it all can change...... I can certainly relate at least to some degree.
September 12, 201014 yr I can relate a bit Nubbly as I can image that your heart just sank all the way to the ground. It would be devastating for you, your soul mate unbearable to deal with. I am just so pleases for you and Grant that he is okay, I thinking someone was watching over him that day As for my son and I, I couldn't stand I just fell to the floor, I was so thankful that he was still alive but it was a horriable experience. I rang my other sons that at the time lived in Numurkah, nearly 2 hours away sobbing my heart out. And they were over here in an hour and the drive takes 1 3/4 hours I am lucky they all got here in one piece too. But all turned out good and he recovered from his injuries in time. Thinking of you
September 12, 201014 yr Iam praying for a speedy recovery for you both , especially for your husband. Ross
