Posted August 13, 201014 yr Our new leg rings for 2011 are to arrive to be used very soon.........September 1st. How is everyone's breeding season going and does everyone put their birds down to breed to correlate to the issue of the new rings ? Does everyone use the new rings the second they have them or do you use up your last years blue rings first ? What would you advise anyone starting out to do.......use up the blue rings for the balance of the year or immediately use the new 2011 purple rings ? I hear differing opinions on this.
August 13, 201014 yr I know one breeder who is still going to use 2010 rings until the run out and he said the will be about october because he said you can't show the 2011 until the following year. It's **** how it has worked out I think. Anyway I think I will you mine straight away because after all we are breeding for the 2012 Nationals after September and it will be in Geelong Victoria.
August 13, 201014 yr I have hens with chicks hatching that will be hatching about then (mid clutch) And I think I will use the most of my rings up on the three clutches. I totally miscalculated the numbers though, and I think I will have at least 30 spare ( I have only had about 20 chicks out in blue rings) , that is assuming these 3 clucthes use at least 10.
August 13, 201014 yr I have only bred 32 chicks to date, make 33 today but it has to live yet. But my moto is.... it is albout quality not quanity and I am pleased to say there are only 1 or 2 than maybe culled over all so far

August 13, 201014 yr Don't double ring GB, I did it last year and really it was a pain in the back side and I end up cutting blue rings off bird that I shouldn't of so now I have none to show next year. Double ringing is stupid I found that out the hard way.

I will be ringing mine with the new rings as soon as they are received, i dont think i will have too many blue rings left over. Some people are double ringing but im not convinced it would be worth doing as your blue ringers you ring now will be so much more immature than the 2010 blue ringers when it comes nationals time. I did keep breeding all year through although i will have some hatching around the issue date, i wanted to try to get mine out of the cabinets before it gets to hot so if i only get one round with the new rings before summer comes because the first round hatched to early then thats what i would prefer

August 13, 201014 yr Author So, does anyone know why someone would be told they can only have two letters on a legring in Victoria when we can have three letters if we want to here in W.A. ? Edited August 13, 201014 yr by KAZ
August 13, 201014 yr I don't know Kaz, I notice each state seems to be different. Like me I am JM4....

No idea, but I have 3 letters on mine in Sth Qld. Others here have 2 and a number or 3. Maybe someone is having a lend of someone. well i know i wasnt allowed to have my ring code i wanted  so i have to be something else i wanted to be fox as thats my last name i was told i was only allowed my initials only and one number but i didnt want my initials so i asked to be gb but i dont know if i can get that so im just hopeing that i didnt end up with lf as if i did well im not going to use rings and im going to just stick to uncodeds as id love to be fox but since i wasnt allowed i hope i got gb and whatever number avalibale as i know gb1 was gone i would have loved brd but was told no only two letters one number but many have told me thats not true but can only get what im told i can have so but does take the fun out of having your own code when not allowed to have what you want its not like fox or brd are afencive after all  but if i get at least gb ill b okay with it but i really dont want lf i truly just wont use them and go back to uncodeds
August 13, 201014 yr Hey Gb what's wrong with CF as people will think you are Colin Flanagan  and be after your birds left right and centre from the pet shop if they ever go there in the future, until they relise the number is different I had no choice over me code but then if Greg and I went partnership I think it would of been who knows.

August 13, 201014 yr I'm confused. I thought it was LF you didn't want. Where does the CF come in? And besides, what's wrong with LF anyway?

September 7, 201014 yr Just checking, as I have blue rings, and my chicks are just starting to hatch, should I use these or get new ones? I'm a tad confused with it all haha :sadsorry: sorry
September 7, 201014 yr Author Just checking, as I have blue rings, and my chicks are just starting to hatch, should I use these or get new ones? I'm a tad confused with it all haha :sadsorry: sorry Some people use their blue rings up until the end of the year. Others go straight onto the purple rings. Your choice :rip:
September 7, 201014 yr Yes your choice, I am still ringing with blue rings until they are all gone. Only have about 10 left. :sadsorry:
September 7, 201014 yr well im useing my purple ones first ring goes on in day or two my first official GB8 -01- bcv -2011 chick :sadsorry:
September 7, 201014 yr okay, thank you all :sadsorry: Â I may as well use these ones up so they don't go to waste, They are uncoded ones as I am yet to organise getting coded ones. I think I only purchased 10? Or was it 20? I sooo have pregnant brain it's not funny - can't remember anything at the moment
September 7, 201014 yr Author I had some nests of babies who were rung in blue rings when the purple ones arrived. I finished ringing subsequent chicks in the same nests with blue and will use purple rings for any new nests of chicks :sadsorry:
September 7, 201014 yr well im useing my purple ones first ring goes on in day or two my first official GB8 -01- bcv -2011 chick :rip:  I just put on my first official BSNZ DF 001 ring  Surviving sister to the much missed splay leg incident chick...  I have decided to use my 30 DF rings for the offspring of a single cock who I will put over about 8 different hens this season to quickly build up his bloodline (i have 60 standard purple rings not personalised that i will use for other cocks offspring). This way I can recognise this family easily by the personalised rings. I have a feeling the will also be visually the best in my aviary... fingers crossed! (Only problem is there is only one of his off spring alive currently :sadsorry:)
September 7, 201014 yr I switch straight over to the new rings, Although im not breeding yet as I didnt stop really last year and im over it , so been having a break . I just started the big clean today , got a heap of birds to cull , then will pair for one round before christmas.
