March 29, 201015 yr Thanks Mate ^_^for any one that knows, is it a good time to breed in sydney? A good time to breed also depends on if the birds are in condition, of age and not moulting. Start your own topic in the MY FLOCK area, introduce yourself and your birds and post pictures of any you are considering breeding so we can assist. It isnt just about time or year or season
March 31, 201015 yr Very good Joel ...terrific job. Â How much light will they get in the shed ? As light conditions affect their willingness to breed.
April 1, 201015 yr It's great to see someone come and ask questions then respond possitively to the advice given to them.
April 2, 201015 yr Thanks for being not only a member who comes on here to ask questions, but one who also bothers to listen and implement our suggestions. Great Job!!! One other suggestion, I'd get shorter perches and have them running from front to back, not long ways. This will encourage them to fly back and forth... also encouraging breeding behaviour.
April 2, 201015 yr That's a job well done Joel. You will learn heaps as you go. Keep posting and reading here and you won't go wrong. You've already proved that. Just a thought, if you check breeding box from outside cage, you will have to watch adult birds aren't in box before you open it. They are like greased lightening and you wouldn't want to lose either parent if you've got eggs or chicks. Well done.

Did you know that you can get an old flyscreen door, take out the flywire and aviary mesh it and hinge it inside your shed door. That way you have a safety door and also a way of letting airflow through sometimes. If you measure up you can find a screen door at a recycle place or salvage yard. Just a shggestion  Â How are the birds doing by the way ?
April 6, 201015 yr Well done Joel, you have come a long way. Â Just one tip from me - take the perches out and measure them up, and cut them so they run the shorter length across the cage. Part of a budgie's mating behaviour involves flying back and forth. Yours cannot do that, they can only run side to side. Â Here is an example of some of my breeding and holding cages where i did what I am talking about.
April 14, 201015 yr it has been 2 weeks and i havent seen them go into the breeding box, should i wait longer. by the way i made the perches front to back.

April 14, 201015 yr the females have crusty brown cere's but i have just noticed the one of them has a tint of blue on the edge. both males have a blue cere that becomes lighter towards the middle and non of them are molting. im not sure if they know that there is a breeding box, non of them have breed before but they are all over 1 year old.

The females cere you have described is past breeding condition where the flaky brown is about to peel off revealing white/blue underneath. The males cere should be the strongest brightest blue if in condition. Suggest removing the nestboxes until the cere colours are right. Females cere needs to be mid brown not dark brown and flaky.
