March 27, 201015 yr Author Thanks, for birthday wishes. How would it need a clean as you don't have hatchlings yet? Or maybe I missed something. Sorry I was referring to an egg being soiled by the hen. I have read that this can infact cause a problem for the chick when hatching. Apparently you can carefully place the eggs in warm water to clean them , but I'm not that keen to do so.
March 27, 201015 yr Author do you mark your eggs so you can tell which one is expected to hatch first? Hi Jimmy Thanks for the birthday wishes. No I haven't this time, but I am hoping for arrivals from tomorrow onwards. I will post a picture the minute I get one. That should be from a Yellowface Cock/Albino Hen pairing. He has been extremely fertile in the past and she was from a quality breeder I bought at Auction last year.
March 28, 201015 yr Author Just wanted to share with you my first arrival this morning. Hopefully more on the way. Excuse the picture quality!

March 28, 201015 yr Author I had to go and check. They are black. Dad's a Normal Grey and Mums obviously a Lacewing. Last year this pair had one round and produced two chicks which were a Normal Grey Hen and a Skyblue Cock. I am hoping for some Lacewings. The Hen's sister is in the next door box with another Grey Cock bird and sitting on 8 eggs also. Also my second arrival just hatched from my YF Cock and Albino Hen. It's getting like a maternity ward out there in the shed!

March 28, 201015 yr Author Sorry had trouble last post loading this picture of my second arrival today.Dad's a Yellowface and Mum's an Albino. Edited March 28, 201015 yr by jetrick57
March 30, 201015 yr So my cocks from this nest and the previous could be used with their Aunty at a later stage and I should get some Lacewings? You MAY get some lacewings. The only way to find out wether or not your cocks are split is to breed with them...
March 31, 201015 yr Author Since Sunday I now have 7 chicks from a total of 102 eggs. I've had a go a candeling the eggs and now expect maybe a third to be fertile.
March 31, 201015 yr Author Great! Wouldn't it be funny if every egg hatched? You'd be over-run. For sure, and with it a lot more stress! But the good kind.
March 31, 201015 yr hay jimmy i think that you may read wrong as the mum is lacewing so all cocks will be split lacewing so the blue boy from last time is split lacewing if this is mum So my cocks from this nest and the previous could be used with their Aunty at a later stage and I should get some Lacewings? You MAY get some lacewings. The only way to find out wether or not your cocks are split is to breed with them...
March 31, 201015 yr Author That's right so I am hoping I will get Lacewings later in the year when I try the Skyblue/Lacewing Cockbird with his Aunty who is a Lacewing The Aunty is currently sitting on eight eggs and is paired to a normal grey which is an uncle to the the Skyblue/Lacewing mentioned above, so hopefully I have the beginnings of a family that I can develop in time. hay jimmy i think that you may read wrong as the mum is lacewing so all cocks will be split lacewing so the blue boy from last time is split lacewing if this is mum So my cocks from this nest and the previous could be used with their Aunty at a later stage and I should get some Lacewings? April 1, 201015 yr Author Any updates? Hi Ratzy Ten chicks as of tonight. The two highlights of today being one nest is on four which is a bonus with so many nest being smaller though my thoughts may change if the other four eggs are fertile. The other being a good looking spangle cock bird I inherited with an aviary I bought last year second hand has fathered a chick and he is an 02 bird. He actually seems pleased with himself!
April 1, 201015 yr I've decided that I need to go over the expectation tables again... That's twice this week I've said something and been wrong... 2 out of 2 wrong... terrible!! Inconceivable!!! Off to the books I go...

April 3, 201015 yr Author Pleased to say I rung my first two chicks today from this March/April round . As of this morning I have 19 chicks with hopefully a lot more to come in the next few days.
April 5, 201015 yr Author Now at 24 chicks with two more rung today. One nest has five and looking kinda busy. This is certainly where the bigger nest box comes in handy. Pleased to say my Lutino pair are up to 3 chicks.
