Posted January 12, 201015 yr Please help! My budige was hatched around nov 22 last year. He (i think) is a Lutino and his beak wasn't quite right so we decided to keep him and tame him. He had like scratches on his beak. I just noticed today that it looks like his beak is being eaten away. One side of his beak at the edge is white, not the normal colour. I took him out to have a look and I'm not sure. Any advice? Does this ring a bell with anyone? What can I give him to strengthen his beak? He has cuttlefish. Thanks. Please hurry. I want to catch this early. Simon
February 11, 201015 yr sometimes the beaks just have a little white/crust on the sides. It's normal, I think it's just the beaks way of growing/repairing itself. You'd need to upload some pictures though
February 12, 201015 yr also, if the beak is really crusty on the sides and delaminating it could be a vitamin A deficiency. The legs and cere would be a little scaley aswell. Vitamin A is a common problem if birds are mostly fed an all seed diet.. you could try giving your bird more carrots, spinach and brocolli leaves. cuttlefish bone is good for strengthening beaks.
February 12, 201015 yr You have been given good advice but I also believe you need to take your bird to an avian vet things like this if there is something that can be treated can not be treated over the internet or diagnosed as we are not vets here so the best thing you can do is take him to an avian vet for treatment.
