November 19, 200915 yr There are breeders in Australia already acchieving birds along those lines Renee Here's just one of them http://picasaweb.google.com.au/spangle918
November 20, 200915 yr Author Yeah, I know! Actually I believe this bird is bred to the UK Standard, the Australian Standard calls for a longer bird, maybe add an inch or two. It's hard to find a picture of the "ideal" budgie as many photos don't show the whole bird .... Kaz, do you have full frontal photo of Bob Smith's Blue boy? I can't seem to download this year's 09 winning birds 'cause they are pdf format ... Kaz?
November 20, 200915 yr Renee, I reckon Daryl's birds look like that. Anyone agree? Geez Richo, I hope you don't mean me! I can only dream of breeding birds like that at the moment. You mean Daz?

November 20, 200915 yr renee you would be able to archive that if the violet hen that you sent me is anything to go by then you must have a amount of very nice big hens if you really put your mind set in one direction you could produce a bird like him you just need a long blowy cock to a hen like her and you would be on your way oh ps the rec cock he had a chick he is split cinnamon to the /rec green hen only one chick lived as being madden hen she did not feed the first few born early hours gave her a older chick and that night last bub hatched and was feed  its not a rec pied but a lovely bird
November 20, 200915 yr Just noticed he has the key hole effect - drats! HOW are we going to cut that out???? Doesn't it seem most of our best birds have it? Funny....I just noticed even this guy has a keyhole look Renee  actually quite a few on the photos of the birds at the Nationals did have that look.
November 20, 200915 yr Author Well GB that Violet hen IS one of the best that I bred in 07 but she is a psycho however, if anyone is going to get anything out of her it is you 'cause you have rare talent for looking after your birds. I ask a lot from my birds, that have to show well, breed well and I don't like them napping during the day! Just noticed he has the key hole effect - drats! HOW are we going to cut that out???? Doesn't it seem most of our best birds have it? Funny....I just noticed even this guy has a keyhole look Renee  actually quite a few on the photos of the birds at the Nationals did have that look. I KNOW! I saw that too ... I guess that is an example of how the goal post keep on moving ... it was only really last year and especially this year that I heard the term "the modern bird" and it was being used in relation to the rounded headed birds. Here is an example of that Round Headed bird I have been talking about, not my bred, it is a Cec and Brenda Gearing bird I was lucky enough to buy earlier this year (sorry if the photo is blurry!) November 22, 200915 yr Renee, I reckon Daryl's birds look like that. Anyone agree? Geez Richo, I hope you don't mean me! I can only dream of breeding birds like that at the moment. You mean Daz? Oops... didn't mean to startle you, but I do love your birds and I hope you keep sharing those beautiful shots of them with us. Cheers
November 24, 200915 yr Just noticed he has the key hole effect - drats! HOW are we going to cut that out???? Doesn't it seem most of our best birds have it? Funny....I just noticed even this guy has a keyhole look Renee actually quite a few on the photos of the birds at the Nationals did have that look. This is not a keyhole effect! Keyhole is when you look at the bird from the front and they have no width at cere level (so in effect it's sillohette would look like a keyhole). The cinnamon grey bird has width behind the cere (width below his backskull so to speak) so he is not keyholed. What you are seeing is the lovely frontal and directional feather than makes them look like they have a little cotton ball stuck on their head. This is fine if the have the strength and width behind the cere to back it up.

Thank you for that pick up  When back scull is present the so called key hole effect is reduced and you are left with a lovely bird! Now I have to get some stewarding under my belt!!!!
