okay as some of you know i just went into show birds

now so far i have been gathering stock like a squeal and just taking time to get the right birds together to start my lacewing line

things went pear shaped when firstly i got some birds that didn't fly so i decided against breeding them untill they had some flight time to get strength back if at all

then i saw nubbly 5 had some beautiful specimens for sale so i pmed her as quick as i could to arrange

the possibility of buying them lucky for me nubbly is a very lovely person and went all out to help me archive flying the birds here to vic

 

its been a few months now and although hes not with the hen i brought for him hes doing a test run with a hen he fell in love with (not the best way to breed show stock i know but ....)

so i dont expect for much out come wize in the lacewing area as knowing my luck it will turn out to be spangled but as far as to see his fertility i placed him with a hen that lays 8 to 9 eggs

as she did ...9 were layed the last 4 were fostered and now the first chick hatched this morning

the mother was the grey spangle that produced the beautiful feather on my grey opaline chick (dark vader ) so my breeding was more to see what she would produce being put with a bird with......... all that

so with out further ado i intriduse to you

im so happy my first lacewing chick,i was like :what: its a lacewing :bliss: for so i could show you all...its only half hour old in these pics

first one hatched i though maybe i would get one but not first hatched that means its posable i could be likely :rofl: to get a second lacewing in clutch

well you can never say that so much can go wrong

but im lucky in the sence that i can breed hens by the fact that i have lots of normal hens and split opaline cocks

and split albino cocks

split lacewing cocks

cinnamon cocks so all in all i covered my bases as far as breeding hens goes

i think i have at least four out of five hens in my dom clutch but time will tell for certain

but one defenent as its opaline so must be hen :bliss:

sure my albino is hen also, the one i had to put to sleep was a cock

just cause their classed as show doesnt mean i will ever win

as in you dont think i will get another lacewing in the bunch ,im pretty sure i will as the fathers line is pretty good geneticlly in the turms of NEW WORD HERE ......lacewingige

 

and i find that birds breed from strands that have the particular breed solid in their background tend to have more success in breeding that mutation even if only split (im talking sex linkages here )

 

how ever im not to fazed if it takes me years to breed some good birds as i would prefer to breed them for quality not quantaty

besides i have a nother two split lacewing cocks down and a lacewing hen down

although i will only get splits from my hen the out come should be good regardless cause any hens from her will be much apreciated and all cocks will be split lacewing

tonight it made it at about 7 30 pm

another baby will get picture tomorrow to cold to disturb now

 

black eyes mabe a hen i can hope other wize a possible split cock possible

only breeding will determine that

also my albino and split albino have 7 eggs and i am waitting for a suprize as i did not candle them just waiting for out come

didnt want to bother her as second round and last time she had two dead in shell

one egg was twins , one albino one norm in the one egg but she kept comming off eggs this time she been good

okay so i got the new cam and went out this morn i got one picture of the lacewing split x grey spangles clutch and it died

i was so exited i didnt charge battery's so now its on charge and i will get more later

 

news 3 chicks this morning :rofl: 2 dark eyes one lacewing all doing great :rofl:

 

 

i will be putting in some nesting materials in next day or so after chicks all hatch

Wow G.B. thought you had lost your little one you were so excited about!!. Great it was only the camera. Good luck with the outcome. It does my head in as to how you can tell all this stuff when they are just hatched, but I guess I'll pick it up bit by bit.

it is not hard to tell a lacewing hachling as being a sexlinked gene

all pink eye chicks will have to be lacewing

unless you dont know your birds background history

 

(as with albinos the cock is only able to produce albino hens )

 

but they can produce normal hens also and only some of the cocks will be split lacewing if the gene is passed on but thats just a bonus really :fingerscrossed:

genetics are not really that hard if i can do them anyone can

i know i get confused here alot but its due to putting things wrong and stuff not knowing the terminology

Very good idea to keep them for at least 12 months! Even those average looking babies can really surprise you and that is especially true for lacewings which I've found tend to mature later and not really feather up until after their second moult.
