October 6, 200915 yr Author Thanks Kaz and nubbly. I only have 24 babies in the flight and about 24 in the nest. But yes the violet line is coming on nicely. All year I have only bred about 50 birds but most of them are vary good good but still very depressing getting clear egg after clear egg.
October 6, 200915 yr Dont worry too much about the clear eggs and slow results mate......I am hearing similar things from all over Australia right now.
October 6, 200915 yr Author I agree Kaz don't worry not culling the culprits I know they will come good for me sooner than later I hope
October 6, 200915 yr I am so impressed with those violets mate! Top job. And as said above - its about quality not quantity
October 6, 200915 yr Author Thanks Dean . I know it's quality and not quanty but I guess I have to wait till next year to see what the ones that didn't breed this year will through me. The of my best birds are the ones that wouldn't breed for me but there is always hope Just hope what i have now will do for the show season next year My big grey green born from 2007 breeding year well last year he thought by putting his foot on the hen was the job done and every one told me because he was so big he would never breed for me cull him well this year 1st round 1 baby and this round 4 babies so there is hope for the ones that wouldn't breed this year maybe they will be more mature next year
October 6, 200915 yr Author some more babies Sky blue spangle and white Dg spangle with bad suffusion the Df is missing the feather at this stage could come later but I doubt it, I think he will be culled they are full brothers to my winning white Df spangle 2 Grey green cinnamons and a grey cinnamon out of my nest of Alan Rowe blood line hen and Watson blood line cock both parents cinnamon This nest is my pied nest, Alan Rowe bloodline pied cock and Watson/ Furness blood line hen This is their fiest nest there were 2 That's all for now do more later Edited October 6, 200915 yr by splat
October 6, 200915 yr Well your chickies look lovely Splat, Well Done! Just out of curiosity, do you give your flock the 45 day Doxy treatment before commencing breeding - or any Doxy at all? I know some breeders routinely give their birds a 2 week treatment as they say it improves fertility .... the 45 day treatment basically cleans out any residual psittacosis chlamydia ....
October 6, 200915 yr Thanks Renee yes I did the 2 week treatment Maybe you could consider a 45 day flock treatment when you've finished breeding? I think it was ahead of my 2nd breeding season that I did the 45 day treatment for the first time and the results were outstanding ..... Edited October 6, 200915 yr by renee
October 6, 200915 yr NICE birds there!!! I've only breed a little, and only to populate my aviary. Even for me, it sucks getting clear eggs. I can only imagine what it must be like for you and other who breed for show and to develop qualities etc...
October 6, 200915 yr Author Thanks Shannon I am sure it will I am happy with what I have so am am still lucky
October 6, 200915 yr hay mate dont cull the df with the blue suffuse he will be very valubal in your breeding to come belive me you dont want to cull him but if you do lol you got my number ??? serrious i would keep him and put him to a grey norm hen or a double grey spangle hen but i wouldnt cull him
October 6, 200915 yr Plenty of potential in that lot splat. I particularly like the Normal Violet UBC on the third row and the Cinn Grey Green Alan Rowe line birds.

October 6, 200915 yr This guy........... Looks Mauve in these photos not grey......what does he look like in "real life" mate ? and being from a violets nest could very well be mauve remembering it is a modifier like violet and grey it can come in 3 shades also is that right kaz ???

October 6, 200915 yr Author He looks grey to me Kaz but he does have a violet sheen to him plus above his tail I can see a violet colour so he is violet grey if there is such a colour he doen't look mauve at least I don't think. Geoff is coming to visit me soon I will ask him.
