hi there i have a pair of breeding birds where the hen and cock have been sitting on the bottom of the cage. she doesnt look to well.

she is an older hen i got and was told it would be her last year to brred but jut to try and see.

well she has laid 4 eggs but i think she may be egg bound.

i have just taken her and him out and put into my hospital cage.

should i try and foster the eggs out or just didpose of them till she is better.

i dont think i have any hens laying around the same time

i have some with babies just finished hatching and some i just put into cages.

please help me

i think i have mabe 2 pairs i could foster eggs to put they are better quality show birds and i dont wanna stress them out or have them kick out all theirr eggs.

thanks

david

Good move putting her into a hospital cage with warmth ? got any calcivet ? If so get a few drops into her as well. Take him out. If the eggs have been incubated and are now cold they may well be no good anyway. You can try warming them in your hands and adding them to another nestbox. Candled them yet to see if fertile ?

where do i get calcivet from

i thought i would leave him in with her as he keeps coming down to feed her while she is on the ground

he is very binded with her.

the egss would only be 6 days old

You can candle eggs at age 5-6 days old. She is better without him if she is struggling. Put seed on the floor around her so she can pick at it. Calcivet is a MUST HAVE when you start out breeding, especially since you knew you were breeding an older hen who likely would have issues. If you cannot get some calcivet into her along with the warmth she most likely needs the vet. If she has been struggling for a day or so she will need the vet. Action is urgent when hens become eggbound.

CALCIVET is available from most good bird supply stores.

do u know of any good places in penrith that should stock iti know ur far away in perthtreid petbarn they only have avicalalso i have king quails that have feet caked in poo and mucki tried getting it off by soaking in warm water but it wont come offany ideas of how to get it off

Do a phone around and race off and get your calcivet. Ask about the avical and see if it is glucose based anbd vit D3 as well. This is important...you havent time to talk quails.

okay i got some

how often do i give it to her

okay i got some

how often do i give it to her

Give her a couple more drops before bedtime, make sure the warm lamp is right by her, and she can sit on a perch ( low perch is fine ). Warmth and calcium should help her pass the egg. If she is worse in the morning take her to the vet.

We are a budgie forum ...............its OFF TOPIC for quails...some members have posted that they have other birds in the off topic area. They may be able to help.
