Posted September 16, 200915 yr I have a friend who is breeding her male bird with my female. They now have four chicks. The male is a Cobalt DF Violet YF2 Recessive Pied (Chippy), and the girl is a Mauve SF Violet Clearflight Pied. (Kyra) She may be split for Rec. Pied, her dad was split for it so there is a small chance. My friend just sent me some pics of the babies. One of them is a collage of photos of the oldest (Skye) and his/her dad. She described them as the younger one being just like the first, except with some black pinfeathers on the wings, and the third as being like the mum. And she mentioned that Skye looks just like my YF Albino bird, though Skye does not have red eyes (also said that Skye is completely yellow as far as she can see). So, I'm guessing..(in order of age) YF DEC, YF Rec. Pied (or Clearflight Pied with a lot of piedness) and another normal white faced Pied. The fourth is too young to guess yet. Thoughts? Opinion on gender? I'll try to post more, and better, pictures later. Thanks. Edited September 16, 200915 yr by Jen144
September 16, 200915 yr Um the dad looks like a green series recessive pied. Its definately not a YF2, as you can see the chicks are green series as well. And as far as DF violet goes, where do you get that from? Any black pin feathers eliminates DEC and clear wings with some black feathers would at this point indicate recessive pied or clearflight pied.
September 16, 200915 yr Author Here's a full body picture of the bird. Doesn't show the violet (he's probably violet skyblue now that I think of it, haven't seen him in a while however) well but you can definitely see he is blue. A head shot doesn't show that really well I know, sorry for the confusion. I am saying chick #1 is a DEC, it is completely white and yellow with no black or anything else. #2 is blue and black and white, #3 has yellow and black and #4 is too young. September 16, 200915 yr Ah that second picture does help lol. Looks a lot different there when compared to the head shot lol.
September 16, 200915 yr Author Okay so do you or anyone else know if the all yellow/white bird is a YF DEC? The others sound like Clearflight or Rec Pieds, (2 YF and 1 is normal) and the fourth is too young as it doesn't even have all of its down yet. A Yellowface DEC or a very pied Rec. Pied or Clearflight Pied (with no markings) are the only options.
September 17, 200915 yr Author Some pics from today. Opinions on gender and colour? I'm guessing #1 is a YF DEC male #2 blue pied female #3 YF pied (male or female?) #4 YF pied (male or female?) Too young to tell whether they are Rec. Pied or Clearflight Pied yet. They are, as of today, 18, 16, 14, and 12 days old. Replies soon please. Thanks. Edited September 17, 200915 yr by Jen144
September 18, 200915 yr Does no one have any guesses at least? I could, but I think it's a bit early to guess yet and would most probably just be misleading you. Be interested to see what they are too and also to see a picture of the Mum. Edited September 18, 200915 yr by Daryl
September 18, 200915 yr Author Fair enough. Here's some pics of their ceres however, because even if we are wrong we can still guess what sex they are! I'm still thinking that they are a YF DEC, Pied, YF Pied, and another YF DEC.. #1 Comparison between 1 and 2 #2 #3 #4 My guesses: Female Female Male Probably female? Kaz, you're good at this sort of thing, can you tell me what genders they are?
September 18, 200915 yr Hi Jen144, I think.... 1. Cock 2. Cock 3. Hen 4. Hen Also.....I don't think you can get a Yellow face DEC.....they are all yellow or all white... They are cute as....congratulations....
September 18, 200915 yr Author You sure? I think you can get a yellowface DEC...I mean, you can get YF Albinos and everything..
September 18, 200915 yr You sure? I think you can get a yellowface DEC...I mean, you can get YF Albinos and everything.. You might be right Jen?.......attached a link for you, I have always thought they have to be a solid colour throughout..... I know Daz has some, maybe he would know the correct answer? My DEC yellow cock is all yellow.... I love the DEC's....very pretty.... http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=16107
September 18, 200915 yr Author If the colour of their cheek patches mean anything, the cheek patches are white like described in the definition of a DEC..Daz come read this topic... Yeah that's why I was breeding this pair specifically, at least their offspring could have DEC's when paired to the right bird, but was not expecting it in this generation! They are very pretty aren't they..Can't wait til the chicks feather up and we get to see for sure what they are.

September 20, 200915 yr Author I still have some questions: 1- What sex are the babies (not a very urgent question) 2- Are Yellowface DECs possible, and if so, are those two babies DECs? (more important question which I really want an answer to) Sorry for repeating this, I've given it a couple days since I originally asked it and no one has replied for a definite yet, so I figure I'll mention it again. Please answer!
