Posted September 9, 200915 yr I have 8 birds selected: 2 greens 1 blue 1 grey green 1 opaline 1 DF Spangle 1 dom pied 1 violet Here are some of them, I was unlucky with the df spangle as 3 are only 8 weeks old but their ceres are changing and a cinnamon violet opaline was plucked on the back of her neck the night before the selection so she misses out too. Violet, I hope to do well with him if his tail stays put Cobalt opaline Dom Pied Green DF Spangle These 3 are better and not a suffused and only 8 weeks old but are capping in the way their cere is changing

September 9, 200915 yr Thanks Renee and Nubbly, yes you should see me there Macka on my little lonesome if I don't pull out. How many birds from your club are selected Macka We did't get a full team,no greywing or clearwings, only 1 doublefactor spangle & another class with only 2 in it,We are not to excited, about our chances.
September 9, 200915 yr Splat, do you have a separate class for Normal Violets at the UBC Shield? Your Violet should go okay.
September 9, 200915 yr Yes I think this will be the first show, were you will get points. We have a good one but I like the look of the ones of splats, wil be good to compare them.
September 10, 200915 yr That sounds really interesting Splat & Macka - can you explain what happens? How many clubs? How are the selections run? What criteria do you use for determination between UBC & BC?
September 10, 200915 yr Author Macka would be better at this than me, Well there are about 17 or so teams clubs each club selects at least 3 birds of each variety which means sometimes their are over 1000 birds at the shield. The selection are done the weekend bfore the shield our club was Tuesday night 5 days before. unbroken caps should be the same as your state. Any sign of them capping like ring eye , pin feathers, cere changing and adult feathers showing are out. My df spangles are 8 weeks old and have slightly brown ceres so they were out. Macka please help me out

There is 3 sheild shows each year. The UBC show is the hardest to get a full team, because there isonly a small window of opatunity to show the UBC,before they breakthere caps, you have to try to hatch them at the right time, about 6 to 8 weeksold. As Splat said, some of the small clubs, struggle to get a full team to the UBC Sheild.I would thinkthere will only be 12 nto 14 teams showing,United club, was beaten for first spot ,this year by Melton.the first time, in a lot of years,so will be interesting to see what happens at this show,if Melton can roll them again. That sounds really interesting Splat & Macka - can you explain what happens? How many clubs? How are the selections run? What criteria do you use for determination between UBC & BC?Nubb,Hope we explained it fot you how theshow works & the difference between UBC& Broken cap.I am not much good at puting it down on paper. But it is a very well contesteds show.Usely2nd to 8th these are the points from the Adult show.!st to 16th.628, 472 432,393,369,360,345,340,321,& they drop away after that.
September 11, 200915 yr Author Well our club has pulled out my violet lost hid tail feather today so I am not going. We didn't have enough birds in anyway so it is probably better this way.

September 11, 200915 yr For what it's worth, Melton will struggle this time. A few of us have had a slow start to this breeding season and a number waited for the new ring issue to pair up. I am sure this will be the case for many clubs. Sunday will reveal all. Splat - does that mean that Ky won't be fielding a team this year? Cheers PT Edited September 11, 200915 yr by chookbreeder9
