budgie is fully acclimated

well she is fully acclimated to her new home. she is c.hirping, eating and drinking. she seems to be fine, and now i think is time to tame and form a bond with her. i have finger trained her, but she doesn't seem to like being on my finger all that much. she always flies away and hides uner my furniture. how should i form a bond with her and keep it growing?

It's best to spend taming/training sessions in a small room. For most people the bathroom is ideal, just triple check to make sure it's bird safe before taking her in there. (One of the biggest things to check is the toilet lid--make sure it's closed!) Also make sure that she can't get inside, underneathe, or stuck in any crevices. If there's an open window shut it. Just look it over, common sense will be your guide.

She's still new so try to keep taming sessions short. Maybe 15 minutes at a time especially if she seems stressed. Let her sit on your finger and talk softly and to her. When she flys off your finger, offer it to her again and encourage her to step up. Soon she'll learn that you aren't a threat.

I wish it was that easy with Bobby - I have spent hours and hours trying to tame him I have tried everything I can think of yet he still wont have me anywhere near him - I think I just have to accept that this one just doesnt want to be tame.

Boomery if you are sure you have tried everything have you considered getting his wings clipped, because bobby sounds alot like Sparky and I'm about to get Sparky's wings clipped as I have tried everything to. ( I know some people might disagree with me on this) but if you do decide to get his wings clipped he might rely on you alot more and it will be easier to handle him because he can't fly off, and try and keep him separate from the other birds whilst his wings are clipped. . Sorry if you knew all that already or if you disagree with wing clipping altogether.

xgrnxeggx- Glad your budgie is settling in and is doing well, I hope you can get her finger tamed and that you will be the best of friends

Keep us updated on him.

Nooooooooooo wing clipping Sparky - I really dont want that plus it wouldnt be fair as he plays and flys with the other birds - maybe with sparky it may be the right thing to do as he is alone but I think Im gonna keep on trying. Good luck with Sparky!!

o.k o.k Sorry there Boomery I had just written that post and then read that you are against wing clipping in the topic "feather clipping" but it was too late to edit my post. :) Anyway I agree we shouldn't start an argument again and that I say good luck with taming bobby. :bluebudgie:

Nah thats okay Sparky no need to apologise and wish you all the luck with Sparky it might totally work for him hope it does - me on the other hand will keep on trying with Bobby if anything he is keeping me fit chasing him all around!

(Laughing out loud) :(Laughing out loud):

Well I guess thats another way to burn off the pounds. :sport:
