Help With A Male Budgie

Featured Replies

Posted

hello everybody i have 2 male budgies whose ceres have turned a brown colour while in a breeding cage with females

i have since taken both out and have in cages but i am woried they are sick

what should i do

i know they are out of condition but is it something serious

PLEASE HELP.

usually when cocks get older their cere turns brown... not necessarily sick but some say it's a sign of "old age" and being past breeding stage... I've had a cock that whilst down with 3 chicks turned brown, then back to blue but he was a fine breeder :D

Unless your cocks were really out of condition hens (as their ceres turn white/blue) photo's would help us to help you more

It can be a sign of testicular cancer too. You did the right thing in removing them from breeding, as they are way out of condition.

This is what I have learnt too from our avian vet.

I have heard that 2 drops of iodine in 1000ml water can help.
