hey all :)

i just mixed up a small batch of breeding aid and was wondering if it is okay to give it to my budgies that are feeding chicks? are there any nutritional values in it for the chicks. its only really for ready to lay, and raise chicks isn't it. just got the stuuf the other day and mixed 250g to 5mL yesterday.

just want to know if its all right for any budgies with the chicks.

cheers in advance

Yep, it's fine...

I use Vetafarm hand-rearing mixture for my tiel's and they end up being nice healthy large bird's.... so it's fine to use breeding aid...

Cheers mateAlso when it is mixed up, what kind of container do you mix it in? does it need to be airtight.

Okay, thanks Kaz. only reason i ask is i was thinking about feeding it to some ready to breed pairs, and another pair that have chicks, but dad is still feeeding and mum has started to lay again.

Also when you mix it up(sorry about the repition) do you store it in an airtight conatianer? or allow air to reach it or what?

Yep, it's fine...

I know Kaz, But what i was refering to is that i use different vetafarm product's and have not had a problem since, so i said it's okay to use...

My personal opinion only, but I see no need for chicks to have it...the oils may upset their sensitive digestion.

Breeding Aid

Ingredients:

Vitamin A,Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Linoleic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Oleic Acid

Guaranteed Analysis:

Vitamin A 200000 iu/L

Vitamin D3 20000 iu/L

Vitamin E 410mg/L

Linoleic Acid 430g/L

Palmitic Acid 52g/L

Oleic Acid 11g/L

Directions:

Mix 20mL of BREEDING AID per 1Kg of seed thoroughly by hand and allow the mixture to sit for 12 to 24 hours to maximise absorption. Linoleic, Palmitic and Oleic Acids are known to increase the size and quality of eggs where a deficiency occurs. Fatty acids are incorporated into many tissues (especially membranes), they are also broken down as an energy supply.

Not only does Breeding Aid increase the number of eggs, but when used in combination with Tracemin will improve egg size, shell quality and egg hatchability. Breeding Aid is well regarded for its ability to increase egg production especially in those birds which lay large clutches or which multiple clutch. Adequate Vitamin intake is necessary for normal egg production.

Notes:

Breeding Aid utilises a specially formulated blend of essential oils, fatty acids and vitamins for breeding birds. It is designed to be mixed with seed to increase egg number, egg size and egg quality. Studies indicate that Breeding Aid should also be used when an increase in male fertility is desired.

BUT I could be wrong

No offence to anybody, but i have taken Kaz' advice and no budgie chick will ever consume any breeding aid. I also consulted a friend who is and intermediate to open breeder and is very knowledgeble also, says otherwise. But in saying that it is fine to feed to mature birds.

Another question. On preparing the mix.

I made mine up in a chinese container (clear plastic container) and left the lid on for 24 hours. should this of been done or it doesnt matter or how do you do it.

old post, sorry,just a question.

im about to put a pair down, their in the holding cae at current, will move to an all wire cage with divider(would you recommend seperate them before placing them in a breeding cage, just something new i havent tried, any results acheived or is it pointless?)

about breeding aid, do you feed mixed breeding aid and seed as sole source of seed or normal seed mix and breeding aid on the side? will also have tracemin to water, as works well with breeding aid

cheers

OOOooooh. :) Well I have been adding the Breeding Aid to my soft food mix for the past month or so .... and all my birds get it. No side effects to date.

I mix it into the hulled oats that get used for soft food, so yes I add it separately. :)

Have used breeding aid for at least 8 years for breeding pairs and chicks. Mix it with seed and leave overnight for it to penetrate into the husk. This is the only source of seed my breeding pairs and chicks get.

This is one reason (Calcivet's Vitamin D3 levels are another) why I am now a bit more hesitant to use Soluvite D......... Looking at it, it seems my birds get good access to Vitamin D3 even without sunlight.

I haven't used it but years ago when I bred budgerigars in a colder climate I would add Cod Liver Oil to the seed throughout the entire breeding season. So parents and chicks consumed it. Can't really see any obvious problem with chicks receiving a regurgitated feed mix from their parents containing Breeding Aid. In fact I'd think the babies' growth would benefit from the higher fat levels found in this product.

Like nubbly, I don't use Soluvet and further, I'm not a big fan of putting anything in the water when they're breeding. With offering budgies a range of foodstuffs they can choose what they require. With additives to the water they have no choice as they must drink the water. The quantity of water consumption (and hence vitamins derived from the water) can increase markedly during the feeding of chicks. Better stop there, getting off topic :D

I use Breeders Aid in the seed mix,I start putting it in the feed a month

before I start breeding & then right through the breeding season,it not in

the mix every day, twice a week.I leave it soak over night & I only

put the recommoned amount in. :D

Veta Farm have a web site , and will answer many of the questions on their products that people have , in saying this there is nothing like opinions of peolple who have and do use any product .
