Posted July 18, 200915 yr Hi, I am an avid reader of the forums, and it never fails to bring a smile to my face when I read the names each of you call your budgies. What I am wondering, is for those that have big aviaries etc, with many many budgies....do you name all of them, or just special ones? I can't even imagine an aviary with 50 or so birds, each with a name, my memory would let me down badly!! So do they all get names? Robyn & Harry
July 18, 200915 yr I name the special ones Too hard to name budgies when you may have 30 grey greens that all look the same though
July 18, 200915 yr I name the special ones Too hard to name budgies when you may have 30 grey greens that all look the same though you have 260+ as it is, naming them would be unfair on those who did not get a name
July 18, 200915 yr At any given time I have 150+ budgies .... they all have a ring code and surprisingly enough many have names but it's more of a case of "Jeff's Cobalt cock split for opaline" or "Cec's Lutino cock split blue". Of my own bred birds there is only one "Magic" and "Magic's sisters" but also "that bloody Violet hen".

July 21, 200915 yr Author Thank you all for responding, I loved reading your posts, and all the names,.
August 10, 200915 yr All my budgies are named. But my best friend has 50+ parrots. And they are all named! (I know their names too acctually)
December 2, 200915 yr I have about 20+ budgie and they all have sentimental names! But, I need to admit I didn't name one budgie for about 2 months after I got it, and even then I don't totally agree on the name. I have one hen, still un-named from 2+ weeks ago . But otherwise I name all of mine
December 2, 200915 yr ahhaha like the last name Alas, it is well deserved .... shes a beautiful violet hen shes no trouble at all i think i will call her renee ren for short
December 3, 200915 yr 200+ budgies and all have ring numbers but do I name them all........ I don't think so. But I do know the ring number and lineage of most of the birds that I use for breeding (maybe not the first year I use them but if they are in the breeding room for a couple of rounds I get to remember them quite well whilst completing the chick records). December 3, 200915 yr I only have thirteen birds so they are all named : Romeo, Julliet, Maxi, Snap, Crackle, Pop, Oliver, Skye, Splash,Piper, Sunshine, Elly and Bubbles. I also have a cocktiel named Moe. I cannot imagine naming all the birds in a large aiary. I tend to get my kids named mixed up but not the birds ..LOL!

I keep 150+ birds. And I name mine either Keeper or Cull!. I'm similar to nubbly i know the breeding of most of my birds without looking up their records.

Same here but I only have around 50 so it's not that hard to remember them all. Some of mine have names as I encourage the kids to name the ones I think will remain for a couple of years. And it's a way to get them involved.
December 4, 200915 yr Sad to say that some of mine have names. The 08 Nat winning Albino is "blondie" and I have a handy fallow called "Eddie Maguire" because he is everywhere I look. Some purchases get named after their breeder - a bit like farmers naming dogs. But that is as far as it goes. Cheers PT
