The grey is from a Clint Ault hen and a Gary Watson Cec Gearing cock. Got 2nd in UBC at the show.

and after her first moult and still young

 

 

 

 

I will get a picture of the dad...he is grey and doesnt look anything special but same bloodlines as his partner.

The parents are on eggs again. I have two half sisters........the mother of this one and another. The large blue cobalt boy I recently bought at auction is related to the sisters as well.

Its the Mac Laughlan bloodline......theres some huge blue birds coming from their stud.

I suppose when we look at birds, we are judging them solely on what we see, as we may not know there bloodlines. I once bought two birds off Cec Gearing. Kaz and Renee were both there that day. The blue bird - Caesar - was the better looking bird, but Cec told me that the grey bird - Bruticus - would produce better offspring due to his genes.

 

I suppose that is the difference between good breeders who will go on to great success, and others who simply critique what they see. A good breeder has a plan to produce good young, where other breeders work solely on the visual, without considering the line they come from.

I was told by the breeder to specifically buy it for what the breeder knew to be excellent bloodlines. Noone else recognised its potential and I bought it for $20 !

I agree. Otherwise we would never expect something as simple as getting a Blue from two Greens.

 

In the first pair, I think the cock has plenty of qualities and looks pretty damn nice! But in an earlier picture he doesn't look as good as that. In the picture above the hen looks very ordinary, but it is only one picture. I don't know what she looks like in real life. But she is obviously carrying the right genes even if possibly not showing them.

 

I think you are progressing very well with your birds Kaz, I can see a big improvement over last year's chicks. And I think a lot of it comes down to understanding your birds. Well done.

you make me smile again kazz this shows me my birds are good and that i will succeed with my challange ahead beky hen or not my birds will produce quality i always looked at genetics and then vishual but been doing bit of both to be safe of late

may just add you are going places quickly your birds have improved massive since i joined last year the sight

 

its good practace to any one looking at getting birds to see if you can veiw as many related birds possable be fore saying yes or no to a purchuse this helps to verafy if the birds genetics are potant or not sometimes the smaller not so good bird is the better bird so long as the genetic make up is their put with a nother geneticly ballanced bird out comes are usually always a welcomed suprize :hug:

Isnt the rule about buying show type birds to buy the lesser brothers and sisters of the buff showy looking birds as they carry the same genes ? These birds I have bred show that theory works.
