Differences Between Them

So far I've already noticed differences between Cosmo and Piccolo. I think Piccolo is younger than Cosmo when we got him, but both were younger than their first moult.

Cosmo was social, noisy, and curious from the start, but very terrified of hands, and hated his cage. He spent the first few days trying to escape from his cage. He was obsessed with calling out to passing birds.

Piccolo is extremely quiet and placid. He barely does anything lol. He LOVES curling his feet up into a ball and sleeping. He is really slow at eating, although he eats a fair bit. The only time he makes any noise is when he hears the shower running. He doesn't usually call out to passing birds, or if he does, he does it quietly.

Cosmo was very afraid of our hands at first and very untame, but he tamed super quickly. Piccolo wasn't too afraid of our hands (as in, he is untame but lets us touch him and will sometimes step up) but I expect he will take longer to tame. I don't know because I haven't tried doing much with him yet, because I haven't seen any progress yet. It's very early days though.

I don't think Piccolo is sick, he is still alert and responsive to his environment and doesn't fluff up or anything like that. He's probably either just anxious or has a quieter personality than Cosmo.

Interesting to see the little differences even from now. I bet there'll be heaps more especially when we can eventually put them together. My bet is on Cosmo being the dominant one ;)

He sounds just like my boy Oushi he was so quiet he barly ever spojke only if you sang to him, he loves music. But then again if you sat by his cage he'd sit their with his head to the side ready to here you sing. But now he's chirps and flirts with me.

Pretty was like Piccolo for the first 6 months and then he started to come out of his shell. I find that they are quieter when they are alone (depends on the bird) but when I introduced him to Merlin a whole new personality came out so this is just the beginning both birds are different of course but he will come around when you intro him to Cosmo too. Pretty didn't have anyone for the first 9 months so he was really quiet for a long time.

Django's personality is very similar to Elly's Pretty, and he has progressed from being scared and quiet in the beginning to tolerant, and now it's been about 3.5 months -- we think he's verging on accepting us. He's really quiet, sits on the same spot the whole day and tweets to passing birds (OUCH my ear when he's on my shoulder), eats slowly like Piccolo, with an extra wariness. He's only just begun to chirp and chatter to everything except our voices :D

My Casper was very quiet adn slow to come out of his shell too, but when he did, he tamed up really easily. He would sit on my shoulder all day if i let him, go back to his cage on command, let me scratch his tummy etc. He wasn't very talkative though... learnt two or three phrases, adn didn't really sing much.

Smokey on the other hand has been a talker and singer right from day one. He picked up phrases really quickly adn now has about 20 phrases and actually has little conversations with us using his phrases! He sings all day and will come to the side of his cage for kisses and a chat when we sit down on the lounge next to his cage. He seems really interested in us as long as we're not in his cage! He really hasn't tamed up well. He will step up happily unless you try to take him out of hte cage on your finger. He's really freaked out by hands and fingers, even though I have done with him exactly what I did with Casper (perhaps I have even perservered longer than I did with Caspy), but is just as much fun because he's so social.

So there are as many temperaments and personalities in budgies as there are in people! My two have been chalk and cheese and I often wonder what they would have been like if had been around at the same time! I loved how tame Casper became, but often wished he'd been a bit more talkative. And I love how talkative Smokey is, but often wish he'd let me have a "cuddle" like I could with Casper.
