Budgies And Mondo Grass

Featured Replies

I want to keep Quails in with my budgies. They will be okay right? The aviary is 1.8m high. I figure budgies will take the top and quails can rule over the bottom.

So my question is what kinda of plants will budgies not destroy? I want to make like a forest for the quails but I don't want the budgies to destroy it! I can hear you all saying "Good luck with that!" I was thinking Mondo Grass?

Also, Cockatiel in the mix as well?

Thanks

... 'good luck with that'... budgie will destroy it all, and you'll have to replant and fix it all up. Also with a soil floor, mice etc can be a problem. As to having quails and cockatiels, we'd need to know the overall size of the aviary before commenting.

budgies will eat it all.

What I did was cement floor, with a corner of straw and sugar cane with plant pots turned on their sides to act as nests. Works well for the quails.

Thanks guys. I thought they would destroy everything. I put a branch in the cage their in at the moment and they stripped in bare in about an hour.

My aviary dimensions are 1.5m long, 1.2m deep and 1.8m high. I'll probably only have about 10 budgies in that space. I just thought I'd get one pair of cockatiels because they sell for a bit more than budgies and we like them.

Thanks for the ideas Pearce. My aviary will be on a concrete flooring as well. I'll use those ideas! Did you use circular pots? Did they roll around?

Thanks guys.

I had an aviary that size, and its not really a huge space at all, ......I couldnt imagine tiels in it too with the budgies as they always seem to need more space for flying. Might be just me. You arent planning on breeding in there too, are you ?

I also had a fully planted out aviary till the budgies went in.....nothing green and edible lasts the distance. A fully planted out aviary with established palms lasted about a week till there was nothing left.
