Posted May 7, 200916 yr Hello everyone! I've been a budgie owner since I was 12. I am now 31 and I'm the proud father of Muppet the budgie. Sadly his girlfriend Donut escaped when they were on holidays at my Mum's house, and I had a horrible experience with a recently purchased baby budgie, who sadly passed away. Muppet lives in a cage at home but he is let out every day. He is half-tame (and by that I mean he choses when he wants to perch on my finger and eat from my hand LOL) and happily does laps of my living room both in the air and on the carpet. I'm looking for a new companion for Muppet and am loving reading all the wonderful information on your forums! Look forward to chatting with all of you, Lobostar
May 7, 200916 yr Hi Lobostar and welcome... There are a number of very good show Breeders here. Hope you enjoy our forum.
May 7, 200916 yr Welcome Welcome.... Daz is right you are in luck there are many great breeders here on the forum from Perth, we have a forum called Wanted Budgie where you can put a post on what you are looking for. If you do decide on an addition, unless you are not wanting to breed, I personally advise the same gender bird and also make sure you do a 30 day quarantine before you introduce your new bird to your existing bird. I believe Daz has a link in his signature about what quarantine is and the importance along with many posts and articles here that talk about the subject. We love pictures and we have a contest going this month called Budgie of the Month so if you are interested please submit a photo . Again, welcome.
May 7, 200916 yr I am also a Perth Member. We have a few on here who are from Perth. I can recommend *libby* who handraises baby budgies and has some beautiful natured birds. Send her a PM message and inquire

I'm about to post in the Wanted Budgie forum. I've pretty much always had a pair of budgies since I was young (boy and girl). I love the way the hens take charge and pretty much investigate every nook and cranny in the house for possible nesting sites. Do you think it will be okay to introduce a new hen to my bird? (After quarantine?)
May 7, 200916 yr I can highly recommend *libby* as well, I have bought 2 budgies off her over the last 12 months and they are the most wonderful budgies, you won't have a problem finding a good bird from her
May 7, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the warm welcome and breeder suggestions. Before I approach (or PM) one of the breeders, I just wanted to ask a silly newbie question - so here goes... Do you think they'll mind selling to a pet owner like me? I'm not a breeder (yet - wait until I get a new house next year he he) and I really only want a budgie as a pet, so he (she in this case) can hang with Muppet, my fiancee and I. Do you think they'll mind?
May 7, 200916 yr I don' think they will mind, *libby* sold to me and my budgies are pets like your Muppet, I am not a breeder either and my budgies live inside. Not everyone here breeds budgies.
May 7, 200916 yr welcome to the forum! Wow our WA contingent is really growing. Hope you find a new bird soon
May 8, 200916 yr Author Thank you everyone for making me feel so at home and welcome. I spent most of last night reading old posts and I've learnt a lot already. I'm at the point where I now know that I know very little if that makes sense... Lobostar
May 8, 200916 yr A lot of our birds go to Pet sales... Show birds make the best pets, as they are handled more. We don't tame them as such but they are given a lot of attention.
May 13, 200915 yr Author Thank you everyone for your welcomes and advice. I have indeed gone to Libby to pick up my new addition and the little hen is truly a beautiful little girl. She's in her separate cage sleeping now. I've put her seed and water both in the normal "feeders" and in little bowls on the floor of the cage. I've followed the forum's advice about quarantine and I've got my two little guys in separate cages. I can't wait to introduce them in 6 weeks or so! I'll post pics of the little girl as soon as I can! Edited May 13, 200915 yr by Lobostar
