May 7, 200916 yr Hi today I got my wormout gel.It is a orange gel substance. one pump gives 1ml, supposedly. 1. Do you worm your breeding pairs? I worm all my birds 2. Do you worm your breeding pairs if they have chicks?> I worm them before the breeding season 3. Do you worm your newly fledged chicks? 4. How often do you worm? Every 3 months? :offtopic: I've been lazy once a year at the moment. thanks Pearce, i'm currently doing the whole flock. Last night was the first day tonight is the last day. I'll put them on vitamins tomorrow night. I know I should do it 3 monthly but after last year's deaths, I've just got the courage to do it now.
May 7, 200916 yr Author thanks very much Daz. I with held water for 8 hours and then added the water to the cages. Daz, did your worming gel come in a orange jelly substance or was it a liquid? Mine is like a jelly and I hope thats what its meant to me (the name is wormout - GEL after all) just making sure.
May 7, 200916 yr so do they get their first worming at 3 months are they to young to worm at that point?
May 7, 200916 yr Author Mine are 3 months old and I'm worming them now, I hope its not too young. I need to learn to crop feed so I can apply the gel straight to the bird, that way I can ensure the bird gets the dose. How do you ensure each bird gets a dose? I dont think Birds drink everyday so some birds might not even consume any.
May 7, 200916 yr My avian vet who recomended the wormout gel advised a dose straight into the beak. Edited May 7, 200916 yr by KAZ
May 7, 200916 yr 1 ml straight to the beak kaz? Thats what I was told Pearce...one drop from the pump into the beak. But double check this with a vet.
May 7, 200916 yr NO NO NO 1ml per pump. 2ml per 160ml water.... for me thats 25 pumps per 2 lts. Crop is 0.05ml per 100grams body weight. If you give 1ml the budgie must weigh 2 kgs. Edited May 7, 200916 yr by Daz
May 7, 200916 yr Sorry I am only going off the container in my hand Maybe these vets know the tolerance levels Daz. BUT I would still check with a vet for dosage, Pearce, as it seems dosages can vary and be misconstrued.
May 7, 200916 yr When I went to weight watches they said that a glass of wine is 1 point. A women got up and said The *** with one point.... the bottle is 7 points I like her. I use 25 pumps to 2 lts of water. The dosage on the 100ml wormout gel says 0.05ml per 100grams body weight. But I agree with Kaz. Check with a Vet.
May 7, 200916 yr Author Daz when you worm your birds how do you ensure each bird consumes the water? How much water do they need to consume for the gel to have effect? a few drops?
May 8, 200916 yr You can't ensure they drink the water, you can't even be sure they do drink the water. The only way to be sure is get them all checked or administer via crop tube.
May 8, 200916 yr Tim Oldfield told me one drop from the pump to the beak. 1 drop does not equal 1mL. I suggest dilute the gel to the proper dosage which should be on the container and give it via crop feeding.
May 8, 200916 yr Tim Oldfield told me one drop from the pump to the beak. 1 drop does not equal 1mL. I suggest dilute the gel to the proper dosage which should be on the container and give it via crop feeding. I never said it did. All I said was what my avian vet advised.
May 8, 200916 yr Tim Oldfield told me one drop from the pump to the beak. 1 drop does not equal 1mL. I suggest dilute the gel to the proper dosage which should be on the container and give it via crop feeding. Product Description Soluble bird wormer. Wormout Gel is a water dispersible gel suitable for the worming of non food producing birds. Directions: Add 2 mL per 160 mL of drinking water, supply medicated water for 2 days. Remove all other sources of water during treatment. Most aviaries should be treated 4 times per year. DILUTING WORMOUT GEL FOR CROP NEEDLE ADMINISTRATION. Wormout Gel is ideal for crop needle administration however for ease of use it should be diluted in water. Using a small container (preferably with a lid that can be secured), measure 9 mL of water using a 10 mL syringe or other accurate measuring device and add to the container. Prime the Wormout Gel pump and add 1 mL of Wormout Gel to the 9 mL of water in the container. Check the Wormout Gel label for it’s pump delivery! If your Wormout Gel pump delivers 2mL then simply measure 18 mL of water into the mixing container. With the Wormout Gel in the container, secure the lid and shake well for 5 – 10 seconds. This will break up the Gel and give a uniform, yellow suspension ready for crop administration. The dose of the diluted Wormout Gel mixture is 0.5 mL (half a mL) per 100 grams body weight via crop needle. Use a small syringe so you can measure the dose accurately. Remember that the crop needle will have an air space in it which may affect the dose that is actually delivered. For instance, a Gauge 12 crop needle has an empty space of about 0.45 mL. You need to allow for the air space in whatever needle you are using. You will also need to have some idea of the weight of the bird you are treating to give the suitable dose. Any good “bird book” will give average weights of various species. Active Constituents: Praziquantel 20g/L, Oxfendazole 20g/L. Edited May 8, 200916 yr by Daz
May 8, 200916 yr Author yeah well I cannot crop feed so I guess I will have to just hope that they all drink it.Daz do you crop feed it to your birds or just put it in their water. Edited May 8, 200916 yr by Pearce
