April 23, 200916 yr Daz's plans are great. You can use a few different woods... I've seen them built with MDF, Melamine, plywood... really its up to you. best of luck with the project.
April 25, 200916 yr A friend of mine builds them from old bookshelves. Depending how wide the shelf is, he usually divides each shelf vertically about 1/3 way across and puts a cage front on the bigger part and a door on the smaller part to make a nesting box. Make sense? It worked really well for him .

April 25, 200916 yr MDF = Medium Density Fibreboard. It is easy to work with but produces large quantities of dust particles. One of the bindind agents used is Formaldehyde which is an embalming fluid amongst other uses. The other draw back with MDF and also chip board is that when it gets wet it swells. I would say if this is to used I would make sure that the wood is primed well and at least two coats of paint applied to keep the moisture out reduced the emmision of fumes from the Formaldehyde.
