Posted April 14, 200916 yr Hi I'm going to do a journal on a baby budgie. I will start at day 1 and each day I will take 1 picture. At the end we will all see how much they grow. Parents are both grey greens. The baby will be nicknamed tiny and he will be show rung. Meet tiny at 1 day old.
April 14, 200916 yr What a great idea Pearce No wonder why you're member of the year  I love the look of Mum and Dad. This is going to be a great thread to watch!
April 14, 200916 yr You see to me they're not grey green as their cheek patches look blue not grey.. Is it my eyes or the screen??? Great idea though Pearce. Nice blow on the cock and great mask on the opaline.. should make for interesting chicks.

From my understanding, the cheek patches don't always show silver in grey greens, but a black tail is the best way to tell a grey from a normal. Great idea Pearce... will be watching this thread too!
April 14, 200916 yr Author Thankyou all. Daz you are correct the cheek patches are light blue. They look more silver than dark/navy blue to me though so I still stick with grey green. Tails are both black aswell.
April 14, 200916 yr I see where Daz is coming from they do look like Olives, do you know what the parents were? Look forward to watching the chicks progress.
April 14, 200916 yr Author Arent olives supposed to have dark blue cheek patches? These birds have a black tail aswell No I do not know what the parents are. Edited April 14, 200916 yr by Pearce

Daz which one is the opaline, I don't mean to be rude but my eyes see 2 grey greens Great idea Pearce look forward to see how Tiny develops Edited April 16, 200916 yr by splat
April 16, 200916 yr Author I do not beleive either bird is opaline. Can anyone confirm this? Both black tails so definitly 100% no doubt in my mind they are grey greens. Thanks all.
April 18, 200916 yr Author Tiny day 5. He now has 4 mates with him. Eyes now open! Edited April 18, 200916 yr by Pearce
April 18, 200916 yr Good job there Pearce. Photos are lovely. Daz, both birds are Normal Grey Greens. What makes you think one is an Opaline?
April 18, 200916 yr great pictures pearce, you might have to start adding an arrow to mark out Tiny soon. Grey-green's cheek patches are a blueish grey not totally grey. Depending on the light and the flash used sometimes the blue can show up more in pictures. As to the opaline - i could be wrong but i think Daz is meaning the hen as a lot of throat spots is from the opaline gene. Edited April 20, 200916 yr by KAZ
April 19, 200916 yr Author I guess the spots on the hen may make someone think it could be an opaline. I definitly think it is not an opaline though. Tiny day 6. Will be rung tomorow. Hes by himself today.
April 20, 200916 yr Author Yes I beleive it to be a hen. tiny day 7. tiny by herself. Should be rung in a few days. Edited April 20, 200916 yr by Pearce
