I have a pair of birds in a cage and am hoping to get them to breed. The male has recently started to rub his eye on perch and is losing some feathers around the eye. This looks distressing . i dont think he is in pain but i am puzzled as to what this could be. i would be grateful for any advice.

tony

This may sound stupid but he isnt moulting is he?

no I dont think so. His other eye is unaffeceted and there is no feather loss anywhere else.it is just exclusively around one eye.very strange.

You're bird could have sinusitis. One of my birds had that a couple of years back and she was scratching her eye and rubbing it of the cage and perches. The feathers around her eye got all scruffy and i took her to an avian vet and got some medicine and she got all better. You should take your bird to the vet. :D

thanks. il take him to see a vet.
