as a general rule the flecking will come up during their first moult. You will hear people talking of "moulting out clean" which basically means that during the moult the new feathers don't grow out flecked.

A clear baby in the nest can moult out to have flecking, but realistically if a baby in the nest has flecking, its just going to moult out worse. It is the same with spots I suppose, a baby with great spots in the nest will get greater spots, and a baby with average spots may grow some nice ones over his or her first moult.

There will only be the one chick from this pairing. The hen got off the eggs and a few days later she was found dead in the hospital cage. She was not eggbound and showed no signs of ill health or poopy bottom apart from needing to be near the warm lamp.

Here is her son now......just going through his first moult.

He is looking the goods, the spots might let him down,

unless he moults them out & grows a better set.

I would pull them & see how the next set looks.

I don't think he has his spots yet macka. They still look like the baby feathers to me.

I am with Shannon here - I got lost somewhere. Is this right?

You got 2 birds from Cec, and bred them.

They produced Uno.

The pair were going for their second clutch, had layed 5 eggs, when you found her dead.

You also got a hen, and she has moulted out very well.

The hen is not Uno. They are two different birds. Right?
