March 25, 200916 yr The hazards of putting faith in petshop off the shelf products. Ivermectin spot on treatment...once only spot on the back of the birds neck.......spoken of many many times on here. Damaged ceres rarely repair themselves and if too badly damaged can impair the breathing through the nostrils. Edited March 25, 200916 yr by KAZ
March 25, 200916 yr Definitely go for the ivermectin... you will probably have to take them to the vet for it, and even possibly tell the vet specifically that you want them treated with ivermectin (if he/she isn't particularly in touch with birdie business). But it is definitely worth the trouble. My budgies have both had scaley face which i got onto really early (even before any visible crustiness) and used oil and off the shelf products. In these mild cases the products did stop it getting worse, but didn't ever clear it up entirely. Go for the ivermectin and if you manage to get the scaley face eradicated in all your birds, it MAY not rear its ugly head ever again (fingers crossed). Having got my guys cleared up, I haven't had any trouble with it since. Edited March 25, 200916 yr by CaspersRose

Do you have a picture of the affected bird? I find that half of the pet shop products do not have the correct dosage and they do not work. Aristo-pet for example, I tried it to treat red mites. Did not work at all, stressed the birds out for nothing. Then I used a product called Avian Insect Liquidator, worked very well. I rarley by medications from pet stores anymore.
March 25, 200916 yr thank's will get ivermectin ASAPthanks for everything. Ask for ( actually insist on ) an applicator bottle so you can treat all your birds as the need arises in the future. If the vet want to do an injection..I would refuse. Ask for ivermectin and if none available go for moxydectin...the vet should have either available. Since it works so well with only one application there is no need to be talked into anything else. If you insist and advise you are well informed and part of a worldwide budgie forum, the vet will see you know what you are talking about.....we hope
March 25, 200916 yr Author so do i ast the vet to do it or just ask for it and can i get it from the pet store
March 25, 200916 yr I dont think pet shops sell it. You can get it from some online stores or an avian vet.
March 25, 200916 yr so do i ast the vet to do it or just ask for it and can i get it from the pet store If you ask the vet to do it, then every time you need to use ivermectin you would have to pay for a new vet visit, let the vet diagnose the scaly face and ask to be given ivermectin in a dropper botle for the future use for incoming birds to be treated. You cannot get this from apet store. Try not to buy meds from pet stores or listen to pet shop staff about medicating your birds.
March 25, 200916 yr I agree with KAZ... the only thing I buy from a pet shop, and thats if my stock feed place has ran out, are supplements for calcium...
March 26, 200916 yr Hey Bird Haven where abouts are you? If you are close to me then I can organise to get you some.
