Smokey seems to have recently developed a much greater appreciation of the delights of splashing around in his water bowl. Surprisingly though, it seems to not only bring him pleasure in the cooling down and feeling clean sense... it also makes him really ***** (oops... sorry that got sensored! I mean h***y, as in "turned on")! He'll splash around in his dish for a moment or two, then jump out, hump his swing, then go back to his bowl for more "invigoration" and then flirt rather grotesquely with his hanging ring thing and so on with all the things in his cage! Is this rather erotic relationship with his bath water something anyone else has observed with their budgies, or is it just my little man? He is probably about a year old (I got him May last year as a baby)... could this help explain things?

I dont know any that use water as an aphrodisiac, however a lot of males are humping anything they can find at the moment.

 

There is nothing wrong with it, however if you don't like the behaviour, try changing his water container so he cant get into it and increase his dark hours to 14 hours.

Haha! Thanks Liv... it seems pretty much anything will float his boat at the moment!

I would hate to be his swing this week... it seems to be copping the brunt of his "enthusiasm"!

I even went so far as to put his mirror bell toy (usually reserved for play time outside his cage) into the corner of his cage, but to no avail... he's just not interested! It seems he has a fetish for the inanimate!

Ah well, boys will be boys... I will put his bedtime forward an hour for a week or two, and see how things go!

If you want to stop the behavior or decrease it keep him covered for a couple extra hours for a week or so it should help the behavior

Charley was over zealous with his romancing of his favourite little latticed ball (with bell inside..you know the ones).. very noisy relationship!!! I eventually took it out as he was driving me CRAZY!!!

 

He can have it back when he shows some restraint!!!! :tut_tut:
