February 8, 200916 yr He was an amazing parrot! it just shows how smart birds really are - its a compliment to be called "bird brain" hehe. Shame he died
February 9, 200916 yr I love Alex. Ruby the African grey is also a real sweet heart (she has a potty mouth on her though): She has fairly strong language, which she picked up from watching tv, but for those not afraid of that, there are many videos of her, many that don't have strong language too. LOL. For those interested look up "Xrated parrot" on You tube. She's a funny little character. Edited February 9, 200916 yr by Sailorwolf
February 20, 200916 yr Grey's are definitely very intelligent birds. Mine is too smart for his own good sometimes, and I know he understands in some fashion my language just from some of the replies I get when I talk to him. It is definitely a shame Alex is no longer here, such a tragic loss for everyone. I am glad Dr. Pepperberg is still able to carry on her studies with the other greys she has. Parrot intelligence has long been underestimated in my opinion, and I find the work Dr. Pepperberg has done to be very interesting. Thanks for the link Kaz.
February 20, 200916 yr I read the book Alex and Me in one sitting and then gave it to Pip and he did the same! Amazing book, if you want to learn more about training these guys it gives you some great starting points
