hey i was just wondering if any of these birds will go well in a mixed aviary budgies, cockatiels, princess parrots, Indian ringnecks, grass parrots, regent parrots, Kakariki, galahs

cheers

Budgies are not a type for a mixed aviary but can go okay with tiels apparently. I have parrots but in a seperate aviary to my budgies.

Budgies really aren't good in a mixed aviary as Kaz said. I have a tiel in my budgie aviary and she's pretty okay but they do harrass her sometimes

I wouldn't like to see Budgies with ringnecks... although my sister inlaw said that if I got a ringneck she wouldn't mind, and she can't stand my birds :P

Oh, okay I was thinking about making a feature out of a mixed aviary with those sorts of birds at our new house. What sort of parrot do you have kaz????

We have princess parrots and barraaband parrots in my husbands aviary.

My budgies and cockatiels are in an avairy together. I would imagine some of the bigger birds you have mentioned could hurt the budgies. I also used to have king quails and they are good to have with budgies. Can doves be housed with budgies? what about finches?

To put it into perspective for you there are a number of different temperaments in the birds you have picked

budgies - aggresive

cockateils - fairly quite

, princess parrots - quiet

indian ringnecks- quite aggresive

grass parrots- depends on the species but can be aggresive in breeding season

regent parrots, - not sure sorry

Kakariki - quiet

galahs - depends on the bird, often quiet but may be aggresive and are MUCH larger than the other species you have listed.

Your best bet might be to seek out a forum which caters to general parrots rather than a single species and ask for a community aviary recomendation from them

Doves and finches, canaries, etc shouldn't be housed with parrots as the hooked bea of a parrot can do alot of damage

The budgies hurt the parrots

yea thanks i probly wouldn't breed anything in there just use it as an avairy to hold my birds in and show off

My husbands aviary is 10 metres by 3 metres by 2 and a half metres tall, Lots of places in there for various birds to hide or nest. We have parrots finches and canaries in there.

this is the design im probly going to go with

mitchellroadaviarybasicdesign.jpg

it will have a walkwaydown the middle and breeding flights on either side of them and then have the big aviary at the end

I have heard of Budgies biting finches legs off. Of Ringnecks killing Budgies and Budgies beating up Princess parrots. So I think it depends on the birds. I have send an avairy with Ringnecks and Budgies in it and the person never had an issue however I would never do it.

finches,tiels,kakarikis,budgies can go together happily

i keep kakarikis, doves, finches, budgies, cockatiels and quails in the same avairy and they all get along fine and just keep my love birds and galah in different cages.

It really all depends on the size of the aviary. When I move out bush I hope to build an IMMENSE aviary (we're talking tennis court sized) which will be mixed and I will have many more options as they will be able to create their own 'personal space' but in a smaller aviary you must be more careful and the smaller it gets the less species will coexist.

Before making decisions on which birds should be housed together you must always look at the size of the enclosure first.

I've personally had no issues with mixing tiels and keets. I've even kept tiel and keet chicks in the same nursery cage and they interact wonderfully. As for the others, I'm not sure I've never tried or owned alot of the others. The only ones I was strongly warned about were Lovebirds... I was told not to put Lovebirds in with any other birds because the Lovebird will always come out on top (of the other dead bird)!! I also agree that SIZE MATTERS. The larger the area the better off you are mixing any kind of bird. If they have room to get away from each other or space to claim as their own then I think you will fair very well. Good luck.

Hi, I have a Bourke parrot with the budgies no problem so far and it's good to have pink colour in the avairy.
