hi

i was just wondering if it is okay to give budgies rainbow lorikeet food i did not think it was the best idear but i want to know your oppinion

thanks BH

lorikeet food is designed for lorikeets it is not unsafe to give a budgie lorikeet food but it is not designed for them nutritionwise since both bird's needs are different.

I agree with Elly... I don't see the point in giving it to them. If you have them on a balanced diet... they shouldn't need it, nor be fed it.

Why would you want to ? Are you running out of budgie seed or just trying to use up some lorikeet food ? :bliss:

no i am not running out of budgie seed i was just thinking if i got lorikeets i maybe could put them in the aviary and if the budgies ate it would it kill them or would having lorikeets be a threat to them

Havent you a seperate place for your lorikeets and budgies ?

hey i think they can sometimes attack them lorikeets are sometimes aggressive but I think MB keeps hers together not sure on that though.

I definately DON"T keep them together. My lorikeets share a very big aviary with a yellow rosella who the get along with no worries but I'd never put them with my budgies. They are a very agressive species and would most likely kill quite a few before you managed to rescue the remainder.

Do NOT keep them together. If you know nothing about housing them and who they should and shouldn't be kept with, I suggest you RESEARCH them on the Internet before going out and buying them!

Lorikeets need more then just seed they are to be on a very special diet they are not just seed based birds, I am sure if you ask MB she can give you excellent advice on the care of a lorikeet before you buy or get one from someone, they are gorgeous birds but need special dietary needs.

Lorikeets don't eat seed at all, don't they?

They are a nectar and a fruit eater.

They can eat seed but they really shouldn't as it can damage their tongues. That being said my eight year old lori has always had seed in her diet to some degree as she has often lived with seed eating species (and she's a sucker for sunflower seeds :P ) and it hasn't harmed her yet, but she always has her nectar food available.
