okay so I thought I would post picturesof my new additions.

 

First off my suspended avairy (stand yet to be added)

 

We used the pull out the bottom tray and am going to use it as a roof and blocked up the hole. breeding box in not in the right place or even the one I was thinking about getting but it will do them for now.

 

 

 

 

Now first Snugglepot and Cuddlepie (Normal Green Cheeks)

 

 

And Tommy & Joy (Yellow Sided Green Cheeks)

 

 

 

I was trying to get a good picture of their tummy's but they where not having any of the big scary camera!

They are beautiful!!!!!!

I have actually read these forums for years and this is my first time posting. When I first started breeding birds over 5 years ago I read as much as I could on these forums. I no longer breed budgies, so many times I have felt that I would not register, but instead I like to read the posts and look at the photos, however... these are some of the birds I raise (I also raise African Greys, Pionus Parrots, Mini Macaws, and Amazon Parrots) and I felt that this would be a good time to join.

 

I actually have 3 pairs of green cheeks. They will love the aviary that you have set up for them. The nest box in there, actually, is a good box for them. I usually use a grandfather type box that is 16"-18" tall with a 12"x12" base to it.

 

I also wanted to let you know, that your quakers should settle down with the noise as well. I have 5 pairs, and they are very quiet now that they have settled in (and here, in Ohio, it is too cold to keep the birds outside, so all of my breeding birds live inside.)

 

I know I am new to this forum, but I do have quite a bit of experience in breeding these guys, so if you need anything feel free to contact me!

Thanks, one of the reasons we wanted to get them now was so that I could research like mad and make sure they where settled for the start of the next breeding season. Thanks if i do have questions I will PM you!

Thanks, i really think the are pee my pants pretty and the great thing is that they are only a little bigger then a Budgie so they remind me of Budgies so much. Mum calls them my gold plated Budgies as they have gold on them and are a bit bigger and cost more :budgiedance:

Hey I was looking at your soon to be suspended aviary and I thought, wouldn't it be better if you put it on its other side. That way the doors will be on the bottom and if you want to use them the birds will be less likely to fly up and out of them because they are on the bottom. I've found that birds are less likely to fly out of lower doors because they are not at their level already and it's a little bit more hard work for them to climb down and then get out than it is for them to fly at the same level they are already at.

Just a thought.

Your only problem would be that the doors don't automatically close.

Yeah I did think about that but see my issue is bending, i have a prolasped disc in my back and could not bend at the angle required so i am going to have to risk it with the smaller door.

 

On a side note, I got given a Princess Parrot and a Red Rump for free today today just have to work out when to pick them and also they gave me an avairy to keep them in so will have to move that and find somewhere to put it. My little bird family is growing!

We tried that and we where going to have to double the height of the legs, which means building them. and the saw horses came from bunnings at $20 so okay I am lazy! :rofl:

 

However the normal pair that is in there are a little tame so you say things like "on your box / in your box" and they go right to their box and i change everything over close up the cage and then they come over to see what I have put out for them so for this pair it works. In the future I am going to have to work something else out but it works for the moment

That is Snugglepot, he likes to hand on the cage if anyone comes close and does this whole head twitch thing and scream at you till you come and talk to him. he did not understand the concept of the camera he just wants me to come and talk to him

A mosquito net is a really good thing to stick over you and the cage when you open it.

I have been thinking along these lines, either that or plastic strips down the inside which a few people have said works well but will have to see.

They are really cool - I love Quakers. I had one visit me the other day and they are the cutest pets :bliss:

I love your aviary. I have an aviary with a risky door too. i put a sheet over mine when i need to open it up. :hug:
