Posted January 23, 200916 yr I have decided that as much as I love seeing Cosmo fly, it's not safe to have him with his full wings because we have ceiling fans on all the time. He is growing back his wing feathers with his first moult. He's only got two wing feathers on each wing so far, and they're not the longest two, they're the next two along- the middle ones. So he can fly little bit- but not enough to circle around the ceiling. I don't know whether I should wait until his wings are fully grown and clip them all at once.... clip these two new ones now so he never gets his full wings at any point.. or to just wait until he has a little more lift in his flight that it's starting to seem close to getting dangerous. Which do you suggest? I don't mind him having a bit of flight as I said... the first time I clipped, I didn't clip all the way down so he could still fly from like hand to shoulder sort of distances.
January 23, 200916 yr if you want to keep him flightness then you can go ahead and reclip those feathers it really doesn't matter if you wait or do 1 or 2 at a time but if you do it this way you will be clipping more often because others will pop in as he molts the clipped ones out.
January 29, 200916 yr Author I haven't done it yet... I think it's good for him to fly while it's still safe to do so. I don't think they're blood feathers though, and I don't clip too close to the base because I do let him have a little bit to fly with. I just don't want him circling around the ceilings. Thanks for all your advice.. I will clip as soon as he gets uncomfortably high.
