Posted January 11, 200916 yr Hi everyone. My name is Leanne and I live in Adelaide. I got a cage for xmas (98cmx80.5cmx10.5cm) and purchased two budgies today. Their names are Max and Angie. Angie (the yellow/green bird) is meant to be the female( 4 mnths old) and Max (the white bird), the male (6 mnths old). Does that look right? I will be getting a larger aviary soon and I would like to breed from Max and Angie so as to have more birds. Then I think I will use the cage just for selective breeding. I have learnt a lot from the forum already and look forward to learning more and chatting with you all. Look forward to your feedback. Edited January 12, 200916 yr by maesie
January 11, 200916 yr :hi: I'm not good with telling the sexes of birds but I'm sure someone will come along soon that knows. Sounds like a good idea to use the cage for selective breeding. You're birds look great
January 11, 200916 yr the one on the left is definitely a hen. I might be wrong as it is not the best picture, but it could well be a yellow face type 2 sky blue spangle the one on the right is really hard to tell the cere colour of. If it is brown, then it is a girl, but since it is male pied - I am guessing a double factor dominant pied - it will never have a blue cere like most cocks. If it's cere is a smooth purple colour, then it is male.
January 12, 200916 yr Author Yes, your name popped up in a post about breeders in Adelaide and I noticed that you are indeed just down the road from me. I was actually hoping that I might be able to purchase a budgie from you in the near future. what do you think of the sex of my birds? The white is supposed to be the male and the green is meant to be the female. Thankyou all for your welcoming comments, I look forward to chatting further with you all soon.

I do have some babies at the moment and some breeders that are available for sale. PM me if you ever want to come by and have a look Gender.... hmmmm.... looks like your sky blue double factor pied is a cock and your green... spangle (i think), is a hen.

Cheers Liv, thanks for your offer, I will definitely keep you in mind. I don't think I'm quite ready to purchase any more birds just yet. I think I'll wait until I have my aviary and am loaded with all the info I need for breeding, hehe. Max is only 6 months old and Angie is 4 months so I've got plenty of time up my sleeve. At the moment I am quite happy getting to know them and I love watching them. I don't have any intention in taming them considering that they will end up outside in the aviary, i think it would be too cruel to let them bond with me and then put them outside. I will most likely keep one of their babies for taming.
January 12, 200916 yr Could you post a front on view of Max ( the double factor dominant pied please), because I am seeing the cere as quite brown. the one on the right is really hard to tell the cere colour of. If it is brown, then it is a girl, but since it is male pied - I am guessing a double factor dominant pied - it will never have a blue cere like most cocks. If it's cere is a smooth purple colour, then it is male. Dave that is only for the recessive pied. DF dominant pieds have normal ceres or two tone ceres (pied ceres). To me the bird appears female at this angle
