Posted January 4, 200916 yr Hi all, well this morning we (**Liv** and I ) decided to move our quarantine birds from their breeding room location to a new quarantine home. Our early wedding anniversary gift to each other was a new cage for the hot birds. So we raced down to the local bird shop and convinced the guy to give up his display cage so we didn't have to wait until the 13th of the month - we wanted one now - and he relinquished (money does that). So we went home and emptied the trailer and I raced down to the shop again in 35 degrees and bought it - stacked it up on the trailer in the heat regretting the time in the heat that it took me to tie it up. I went home slowly so that I didn't destroy the birds new home (120km hour will do that) We unpacked it and assembled it no time flat and then Liv got stuck into wiping it down with vinegar to destroy the zinc build up, and I was tasked to **find** some wooden perches - off I went. I'm a good finder of perches and was back in no time at all with the freshly cut wood screaming that I had dismembered it from the trees...(I'm deaf to the pain of dismembered trees fortunately) we had to wait for the vinegar to do it's thing for two hours so it was a grueling time, but eventually the birds (23 of em) were loaded into the bird box we transported from WA compliments of KAZ had given us and they were chirping expectantly... We moved them in to their new home just before the sun set and they were very happy - here are some photos of the happy birds.... Relocated happy birds. I translated their cries into a budgie translation device and found that they were very happy :laughter: More birds. I translated the screams of the dismembered limbs of gum trees and found out that they were not very happy - but that's life  Budgies fighting the screams of dismembered gum trees - and looking very content... Happy caged / relocated show budgies out of the heat and slowly dying gum tree limbs giving in to their new life Edited January 4, 200916 yr by JamesBond007
January 4, 200916 yr A number of these birds stacked on the weight in the holding cages and are so fat they cant fly :laughter: So it wasnt only the hot weather that made us buy them an aviary - its for their own health. I laid out the perches so they have to fly down to get the seed etc. - we will change the perches some time soon to the tiered style - just got to make it up
January 4, 200916 yr :hap: LOVE the commentary .................007 you have the best sense of humour and you are displaying your talent for writing stories Great looking aviary.............lucky birds.......not so lucky trees PS dont forget the net over the door for ëscapees" :hap: Edited January 4, 200916 yr by KAZ
January 4, 200916 yr Nice aviary, Happy birds and real funny story, would love to see that 120km trip with aviary inflating and flying away opps no I wouldn't
January 5, 200916 yr Does your mesh go down to floor level ? Have you set up platform feeders ? I forgot to take a picture of the whole aviary Here it is I don't have platform feeders. I put my feeders in kitty litter trays normally to keep the damp and bugs away from the seed (pavers ) - at the moment their food is on the ground and the feeders are in plastic containers. Its the same as my large aviary, just smaller. We now have a line of three aviaries all in a row under the cool pergola. The birds this morning were so loud we couldn't sleep past sunrise :laughter: Only a true bird lover can appreciate the happy bird calls at 6am in the morning  Edited January 5, 200916 yr by **Liv**

January 5, 200916 yr Haha!! yeah, they say they cant hear anything (I totally know they can really hear them) They have 3 kids and are really friendly so i don't think they would say otherwise :laughter: We will be moving all aviary's soon to the other side of the house where there are no neighbours to annoy. We need to lay the concrete slabs for the bird room and the aviaries, and it should all be done before david goes back to work in 2 weeks
January 5, 200916 yr When we picked up Ernie, as soon as Angus opened the car door, he said "yep, this is the right place!"
January 5, 200916 yr We were worried once about bird noise and our neighbours but none of the neighbours when asked were bothered by the noise at all. We have tall gum trees in the neighbourhood so people get so used to birds sounds that it isnt a concern to them....thank goodness
January 5, 200916 yr its bloody noisy here! we have BBQ's out side and visitors always have to yell over the birds And its the canary who then starts singing over everyone and his voice echos though the pergola Edited January 5, 200916 yr by **Liv**

They wake us up in the morining and the grunting koalas keep us up at night. Bloody Nature!!

Most summer evenings we have pink and greys roosting on the electric wires across the road.
January 5, 200916 yr We have skylarks, blackbirds, shining cuckoos, grey warblers and rosellas for our natural choir. The odd kookaburra chimes in too every now and then.
