Posted January 2, 200916 yr I was looking at two of my older dominant pieds the other day as I caught them and moved them before doing the new smaller aviary. One of them caught my eye, as he has some "unexpected feathers" where they shouldnt be. Take a look at this Right wing Left wing and tail Unusual ? Edited January 2, 200916 yr by KAZ
January 2, 200916 yr he is a pretty one, if he is a Clearflighted Pied I would say a default but I don't know how unusual it is since I don't breed, that pied gene can pop up anywhere.
January 3, 200916 yr Author is it posable he has spangle in him kaz Spangle is a dominant gene...so if he was one it would show
January 3, 200916 yr really cause i have breed pies with that simular feathering i just thought it normal as i know nothing about any pie exept the rececive from a clearflight and a normal bird with spangle inheritance /opaline cock i can not get my head around genetics so but the hen was /rec anyhow he is lovley i will hunt down the picture of my one kaz and send it to you one day i thought the dom pie gene over rode the spangle but it could show in the chicks just shows you i know nothing
January 4, 200916 yr Author could this be the start of the black budgie kaz??? Interesting This one is one tenth there then
January 4, 200916 yr all things start small Just need to do line breeding and get it covering the other nine tenths

January 4, 200916 yr If a bird is carrying spangle, it will show up on any and all of its wing markings Those feathers aren't "black" per say, they are just unpied. Edited January 4, 200916 yr by Sailorwolf

January 4, 200916 yr I agree with SailorWolf here, that is the beauty of pieds. Strange feathers can show up. Some feathers can appear random. If that was a normal bird, that black wing feather would appear normal. On this pied, it looks like it is a clearflight, except that last, longest flight. You have to admire the unredictability of nature.

January 4, 200916 yr I have a spangle with a number of fully coloured wing feathers, strange things do happen sometimes
January 4, 200916 yr mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. i think im getting to the point that as long as i get the color i want and eventually tie that in with size im not to bothered a bout type i will find that all out after the fact i do every thing else backwards so why should my bird breeding be diffrent  :laughter:
January 4, 200916 yr Author let us know Kaz if he keeps those feathers after a couple molts. He has Elly...he is a purple ringer so he is considered aged in the world of show budgies :hap:
January 4, 200916 yr Ah...gotcha well then he is unique but faulted in the world of showing :hap:, well you can't be beautiful and have it all :hap: or can you?
