December 25, 200816 yr Highbury Vet Clinic is open on the weekends but only untill 12pm on Saturday Springvale Animal Hospital is also open on the weekend but on Sundays i think you pay a surcharge. Hope it works out for you. The other option is calling Knox Vet Clinic i know that the Bird part of the surgery is closed on the weekends but they might have an emergency number
December 26, 200816 yr Author Nar its not. Gave it a squeeze and puss came out. Its a recent occurance. Im hoping its a feather cyst. Has anyone had any of these before.
December 26, 200816 yr Hope he will be okay. Get him to a vet asap because he could be sicker than he looks. They are very good at hiding their true health status puss = infection!
December 26, 200816 yr Author Im happy to see puss cause then its not a cancer. The only time I can get to a vet is tomorrow morning.
December 26, 200816 yr Can you give him some Tripple C, Avicycline C or some other kind of broad spectrum antibiotic. Also use betadine on the site to help fight the infection

December 26, 200816 yr It is one of the few recommended antiseptics. you only use a tiny bit on the site - can even dilute it if needed. ps betaine is made with iodine, which is not harmful in budgies - just dont over do it Edited December 26, 200816 yr by **Liv**
December 26, 200816 yr i was going to read this yesterday but got distracted.. i found a lump on my boy today. it's on his wing, up near his head.. i nearly had a heart attack when i saw it. i'm gonna ring the vet first thing in the morning (they are shut today) and try to get him in as soon as possible. my boyfriend said it is hard, i'm gonna get him to have another look at it when he's not busy..

If its actually puss then its not a feather cyst. Could be a tiny wound caused by a claw or something that has trapped a germ inside...bit like an abcess.
December 26, 200816 yr I hope Levi is okay, he is such an adorable little guy. Sounds like you're doing all you can. I've never seen anything like that before, but you're right- it does sound less serious than other kinds of hard lumps could be. I am amazed that you managed to squeeze a pus-filled sore on him! Cosmo would put up quite the protest, and would probably continue punishing me for several days after that!
December 26, 200816 yr Author He did put up a fight. His first attempt to bite me. But thankfully he is forgiving heheh
December 26, 200816 yr It's good that you don't carry antibiotics. I personally am very anti them (as EVERYONE here knows ). If you did use them it is possible that you may not have the right antibiotic for the bacteria. Also you could end up killing off beneficial bacteria that are preventing more pathogenic bacteria from setting up. Pus does not always equal infection, as it can result from debris being in the animal, but it is very often, generally, yes, bacteria. It can also result from tissues dying and the body degrading them to remove them. Anyway, I don't really know what else to say, rather than get him to a vet asap.
December 27, 200816 yr Author Hey guys, Levi went to the vet today with daddy (not me !!!:S). Its pretty much just an absess from what he things. On Amox for a week and then another cheak up. Colin will be back by then, so ill take him to see colin. Cross fingers its nothing more serious. But the vet wasnt through enough for my likings. He didnt do a crop flush or a poo swab or anything.....
December 27, 200816 yr hope it starts clearing up soon... if not a trip to the other might be the right idea...
December 28, 200816 yr Author He has been on antibiotics for nearly 2 days now.... NOT HAPPY about being given them. He hates me at the moment. I cant think of what he will be like after a week. But JOY! the lump has gone down significantly
