i had a beautiful baby which i had for only three weeks. he & I loved each other.

my 21yr son forgot to lock the cage and my bird tried to find me. my blind 11yr **** zu found him and only left the tail feathers. i heard a distressed call but i was too late.

I know how you feel and I feel so sorry for you.

My son who at the time wasn't even in his teens left the cage door open on the pet chook cage and the dog got her. He did the same thing a year or so later and a pigeon that I had hand raised also became a victim. Same dog too.

huh?? Is that the bird that got eaten MB??

Sorry for your loss snowy..

That is tragic, but try not to be too hard on your dog. He probably thought he was keeping you safe from an intruder.

Something very similar happened to me many years ago, but the dog didn't know what she was doing.

Your dogs are so nice and friendly though... I guess Hills is right. Its just natural...

I am so sorry, I had a similar incident a long time ago with my dalmatian, I was so angered at the time at the time it happened but realized it was instinct not that it helps but HUGS...don't blame yourself, the dog or your son it was an accident, everyone has them.

I know how heart broken you must feel because I only had my little "Smiggle" inside for about a month and he was sooo friendly and smoochy and then he just died, he did have a very slight wheeze but no tail bobbing and no other symtoms, but he was obvious alot sicker than I realized and it was hard not to blame myself for not picking up on it, but sometimes things just happen. So I'm also sending big hugs your way :) .

:) I'm Deeply Sorry at the loss of your baby..

Your dog being blind probably thought he has done such a wonderful job in protecting you and the house, poor lil sausage..

RIP lil guy :angel1:

I am so sorry :D

My dog did it once too - luckily i was right there and got the budgie out of his mouth before he killed it, but its just their natural instinct to catch things that move.

:)

No, no, it wasn't my dog JB. The little guy went to live with Snowy about three weeks ago, it was her dog.

Ahhh now it makes sense! I was wondering how you know which bird it was... :D

I lost my first two budgies (Fred and leafy) to my cat Martha. My 8 year old let the cats in not realising the birds were out - it is so distressing. Predator -prey relationships are fraught. You won't be able to replace him, but they are so delightful its worth getting another later on.

Snowy is going to take some time over the next few weeks to grieve for her little man and then she is going to come and get another baby from me when she is ready.

I can recommend melbourne budgie's birds - very nice they are!!

I have lots of cute babies in the box at the moment Chris so Snowy will be spoilt for choice. I know how much she loved her little man and I know she will take wonderful care of this one too.
