hi there , i have a really pretty gf cobolt cinamon hen that im not really sure what to pair with or how the cinnamon gene works . are there any mutaions that should best be avoided mixing with cinnamon , ie spangle ? this is her

i should add i have a df spangle cock or a yf2 rec pied skyblue cock ( carrying violet ) that im considreing as possible partners at the moment

Apparently not to mix with clearwings, greywings etc...most anything else is fine. How old is she as she looks too young for breeding ?

The main thing you need to realise that cinnamon is a sex linked gene, it is inherited in the same way as albino. So unless the cock you put her with is cinnamon or split then you won't get any cinnamon chicks

have to check with neat on her age , not planning on breeding with her til mid next year though so she would be okay then :D

okay so the cinnamon wont show up in the spangles because spangle is dominant right ? and unless i put her to a cinnamon male , male chicks of any other mutation would be only split for cinnamon ?

Cinnamon does show up on spangles as cinnamon affects the colour of the wing, whereas spangle affects the pattern. I have 2 cinnamon spangles

I'd pair her to any normal except maybe an other yellowface.

The cocks will be split cinamon and the hen will have nice feathering.

The cinnamon gene not only cases the change in the black markings, it also helps get a nice soft feather to the bird. :D

You can always breed the sex gene out latter if you know how. :hap:

She is 8 months old :D

thanks neat that was really quick . your psychic powers are getting stronger :hap:

hmmm well i would be aiming for strong spangle markings then violet spangles down the track :hap: . i do like your cinnamon spangle though mb , quite nice if i do say so :D

okay so lets say i pair her with the df spangle blue suffusion then and not he yf2 on the left

what would the outcomes most likely be ? 25% df spangles , 50% spangles and 25% normals . all cock birds split for cinnamon ?

She is 8 months old :hap:

So, four months to go till you can breed her so that should get you past the hot weather and into March / April. :D

thats the plan at the moment :D . i just like to be prepared , im not a big fan of hindsight !

Mac is almost 12months 2 ( he is carrying Violet) and should be / Albino if I am correct with the gene thing

( mum looks like him Dad was an Albino) Mac is Chases brother :D From an earler nest

thanks neat , mac is a real fluzy in the qurantine cage at the moment trying to jump all the hens . chase is in with angel and im expecting their first egg real soon too . good to know mac and chase are related for down the track too ;)

Since she is a pet type you probably can't breed any show winners from her so you could pair her to anything you like. If you want cinnamons then you'd need to pair her to a male that is either cinnamon or split for cinnamon.

Pairing her to a double factor spangle you'll get all SF spangles. If he is a white DF spangle they'll all be blue (at least 2 shades) and half of them will be yellow face. If they happen to be split for any other mutations you could get some spangle combinations.

The yellow face recessive pied cock would give you all normals (75% with yellow faces). You would only get recessive pieds or cinnamons if they were split for each others mutations.

thanks neville for explaining that to me clearly  . ive decided that should they both be healthy and in condition i will put the cinnamon hen with the white df spangle :hap:

i like the idea of getting all spangles , some with yellowfaces . then i can breed to violets later down the track to get visual yf violet spangles :) thats given me a good long term plan and goal to work towards , thankyou
