I'm looking for a adult boy tame for breeding if you don't have any do you know where i could find a good one in Melbourne

Most people who have adult tame birds keep them. Why do you need a tame one for breeding ?

well i would like to be friends with my boy as i want a nice pet boy who also is a father to my babies. how tame are the avary boys ?

I would say that having a tamed "parent-to-be" would prove difficult ....

1. They need their flights for mating

2. Once Quarantined - bonded- breeding - raring babies I doubt it would remain tamed ..

My thoughts though B)

thanks, well i know the male may be a bit edgy after breeding but would it calm down after a week or so and be nice agin?

Probably but it would mainly bond with your hen

If you want your hen to stay friendly then the best thing to do is to get a seperate pair and breed them, that way your hen will still be your friend.

Just to let you know I had two tame guys Blue and Flame. I put them down to breed and now they act more like my avairy birds then tame ones. Blueuse to jump on my hand now he fligs himself around the cage when I change the water. Every now and then they are both a bit cuddly and their babies where great but they have bonded with each other and neither want much to do with me. I would not recommend breeding your tame guy if you want him to stay tame. But that is just my personal thoughts.

Breeding a tame budgie will risk his tameness as he will be bonded to the hen rather than to you. It is possible to tame him after breeding, but budgies loose their tame nature fairly quickly if not handled enough.

I think you mean a violet budgie.

Just continue to handle him before and after breeding. Both my tame male budgies that I bred were tame after breeding.

It is a good thing when you are breeding to breed more than one pair, so that if problems occur with one pair eggs and babies can be fostered to the other pair.

Have a look in my avatar, this bird was inside for about 6 months when he was a baby. He was an 06 bird so has been in the aviary since then. The picture was taken a month back out of a breeding cage so its possible, I can still scratch his head he steps up and sits on my shoulder. I also have a bird that was inside for a few years and has been in the aviary 6 months and wont come near me so it can work either way Lol.

But I have had pets I put in the aviary to breed many many years ago and then brought back inside and had the same tame bird after a bit, it depends on how well you have bonded before trying this though.
