Posted November 16, 200816 yr Hello everyone, my girlfriend and I are bit worried about our budgie, there is some protuberance near her eye which started out as a really small bit. Initially, we thought it is just a feather growing out, but it is getting bigger and bigger and it´s actually nearly in the eye itself, so we are getting little bit worried. Do you think that could be a problem? Here is a photo of it: cookie The best photo we could do, she doesn´t like being held in a palm Thanks for the answers
November 16, 200816 yr Poor girl... I'm not sure what that is. It doesn't look great, and if it has been getting bigger, as you said, I'd be getting her to an Avian vet. You have to be really careful with things around the eyes... Good Luck and please keep us updated.
November 17, 200816 yr Best to get her to a vet. It could be all sorts of things It could be a tumour. A fast growing tumour is not a good thing and needs to be looked at soon as it is often malignant then. If it is benign it should be removed as it will become annoying to the budgie. It could be caused by an avipox virus. Which you can do anything about. You just have to wait for the virus to pass. (it is not transmissible to humans). It could be a papilloma virus (not transmissible to humans). Take her to the vet and they should be able to have a proper look at it and do some tests if necessary. It doesn't look like it is part of the eye, just the eye lid. Edited November 17, 200816 yr by Sailorwolf
November 17, 200816 yr Looks like a sebaceous cyst of one of the eyelash follicles. Yes budgies have eyelashes!
November 18, 200816 yr Author So the vet said it was mites. Luckily we let her do the test of the poo and she found out she has got canker (Trichomoniasis) as well, so Cookie has been treated for that She said that she must've had it since she was little baby and it came up just now..... I'll post more in the "Trip to the vet" section Thanks for help everyone
