November 16, 200816 yr They look fantastic!! My only negative comment is that I don't think you have enough boxes in you aviary and they are too close together to prevent arguments so just watch out as you may find you loose some clutches to jealous hens.
November 16, 200816 yr Looks great!! A question I want to ask is how do you clean your tarp? Change it once in a while or like hose it down?
November 16, 200816 yr Author I have had the cage finished now for a week but I still have more to do to it. I will be putting more nest boxes in soon. The black plastic I sweep out every couple of days and I will be placing lino inside it so I can take it out and hose it down. In the mean time im still got more cabinets to make for breeding. The hobby never ends as I got 2 for the kids as pets and before I new it, the colony excallated. But its great for the kids to watch.

You may want to rethink the lino, there was an article on here about it being bad for budgies. I'll see if I can find it. Kaz posted this back in Aug 2007: You will have problems if the birds decide to chew on it. Your Lino isnt the true natural lino from years ago that was made from natural products ...it is a vinyl flooring product and is a synthetic product made of chlorinated petrochemicals, where traditional linoleum is produced from all-natural ingredients. Vinyl flooring has health hazards as it emits vinyl chloride fumes.....these fumes are a known carcinogen ( cancer producing ) . It will also trap moisture and promote the growth of moulds. November 16, 200816 yr Great work Best forget the plastic and the tape that holds it in place...budgies like to chew and none of that is any good for them. A layer of sand ...the kind used for kids sandpits would be better than anything. With two sides metal you may lost your crossflow breeze which will help cool the aviary on a hot day...as you have paving, bricks behind, no shade and metal sides...heat will build up. colony vs closed breeding Edited November 17, 200816 yr by KAZ
November 17, 200816 yr Awsome aviary. I would recommend building a safety door onto it or in the meantime putting those dangly door flaps over the door, like the kind they have in diaries/cornerstores, so your birds don't escape when you open the door.
August 16, 200915 yr Author Well its been a while since I put this up and my Avairy has had a lot of changes. I did away with all the breeding boxes in the avairy and split my Hens and Cocks up as they where fighting over nest boxes., I have turned my garden shed into a breeding room with nest boxes and made a walk in section in the avairy with 4 breeding cages. Well now I have a better success in breeding since ive done all this and I only just finished building my extension today. Here are some photo's of it.
August 16, 200915 yr Author This is my breeding cabinet set up in the shed.Yes Kaz im wrapped as its taken me a while to do it as I was put off work and ive only gone back to work 3 weeks ago, Im a builder so ive been flat out getting it happening. Im running 60 birds and currently have 13 cages with eggs and babies. So im over the moon and im getting ready to make more breeding cabinets.

September 7, 200915 yr Author Well I have just got more cages to use for breeding, I happen to come across a pet shop 2 hours north of here closing down. I called in there as I was coming back from a trip to Brisbane. I picked up 12 weening/flight cages for $10 each, my wife couldnt say it quick enough that we would take the lot. It was a big saving, they used them as there holding cages in the shop. beat buying new ones at $65 each. Now I need to make more shelving to cater for them. On our trip I also came back with another pair of budgies and 2 pair of canary's.
